Hi,
Does anybody know a good place in Seoul to buy ingredients for Thai dishes?
Specifically green/red curry paste, and the basil that you use for grabpao (and or/a a cheaper place than my local Sinchon Hyundai to buy the other kind of basil that you use for green curry)?
Baby sweetcorn would be nice as well. Christ, the things you don't miss till they've gone!
If anyone know's a suitable store I (and my Thai wife) would be very grateful.

| International market in Iatiwon. Most every good sized town/city has an Asia Market. Grapaow (Thai Basil) leaves can sometimes be found at the above but Asia markets Asan city will have them for sure. |

Ta. Knew that transliteration didn't look quite 'right'!
Is Asia Market the name of a chain or a generic type of market? Either way, any idea where I'd find one in Seoul?
Also, the international market in Itaewon, is that an actual (open air or closed?) market or the name of a store?
Google predictably unhelpful with search terms like 'asia' international' and 'market'! |

Robja where are you based? Sinchon is that in Seoul?
I'm sure that there are more asian markets than just Itaewon in Soeul |

Yeah, MrS, that's Sinchon Seoul. Quite central, 15 min bus ride west of the city centre (or 'downtown' if you must).
I'm sure there must be other markets too, but can't seem to find anything on the net (although I'm sure there's plenty in Korean) and other teachers at work also suggested a wander round Itaewon.
I'll have a look there, and if the worst comes to the worst see if I can't get a food parcel from Thailand past customs and excise, at least for the pastes... |

There are lots of foreigner owned markets in Itaewon around hooker hill. I found the Thai curry brand I buy at home, coconut milk, and limes - but no spices.
It's not cheap - 4,000 for 3 limes |

They have them at itaewon. Been there to a largish market before.
Market here in Yongin sells the pastes from Thailand 1k-2k a pack. Sometimes has fresh chillies, always dry ones, coconut milk etc.
Even Singha and Lao Kao. |

The asia market! Just look for the small shop with 4,312 international calling cards advertised in the window.
If that is not helpful, its across the street from Paris Baguette, near the Family Mart by the bus stop.

| Get the paste / herbs @ Hyundai Dept. Store in Omokgyo. You can mix basil and mint as a substitute for Thai basil. |
