I bought a Macbook here in Korea, which cost about $1200. My contract ends mid-June and I'm going backpacking across Europe. I don't want to be lugging my computer with me the whole time. However I hear if I ship it home by air mail, Canadian Customs will charge me duty fees. Does anyone know what sort of rates they charge? Also, I will be starting my travels in Japan. Is it possible they have a free trade agreement with Canada, unlike Korea, and I could send it home from there? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I sent my laptop to the UK last year when I went travelling..as far as I am aware you don't have to pay customs for personal belongings.

If you mark it clearly as personal belongings and send it in plain packaging it should reach your home without problems.
