| Yep. Useful tool to enter sealed buildings on the run. Sturdy under most circumstances. You can stab, pound, or claw the dead. All around it's one of the things Max Brooks got right. |

I'm not sure limb removal would always be effective, but assuming the limb is removed before the virus can spread beyond the boundary of the cut I don't see why it wouldn't protect you from turning.
Are these the Romero originals or the remakes. To be honest I haven't watched either in some time. It seems reasonable that a number of zombies would be able to tear a person apart, but could the random one on one battle result in arm removal? I doubt it, in fact depending on the state of decay it seems more likely that you could pull a zombies arms off struggling to escape it's grasp.
As for close combat, whatever you can use. If an outbreak happened outside my house right now I would grap a crowbar and my big butcher's blade. If that monster can slice right through beef shoulder I'm sure it would make quick work of zombie skull, and it even has a guard. |
My best memory is that in the OG Day OTD there are i think 2 zombs that pull a dude apart, and like between 3 hands some guys stomach is torn open. |

| I just watched the orginal 'Dawn of the Dead.' Holy smokes, that movie is really, really funny. The zombies are very stupid, but the people...wow. |

I had a great idea for static zombie defense. If you've created a safety zone, and the dead are swarming this would help you thin their ranks.
All you need is wood and steel to make a ramp and a chute that tapers down to a single point one person wide similar to the loading chute in a meat packing plant. Then just park a top loading wood chipper at the end of the chute. Taunt the dead into the chute and up the ramp. When the walk over the end in an attempt to attack you... Well, a mask of some sort is recommended as aerosolized walking dead, if not contagious, would be awful. |

Don't you think they'd eventually jam it/clog it up and start swarming you again |

| If a zombie outbreak went down tomorrow....how do you think the Koreans would fare here? I think they would go down really fast. They just don't have many survival instincts. Not a fighting culture by any means.... |

How could we trick zombies into eating each other? There must be a way. Perhaps if we created a pheremone based perfume, Eau de la Living or something, and hosed them down with that, they'd think they were edible and take themselves out.
I like the lobster trap/ wood chipper idea, good Jorge--very 'Fargo.'
I'm still scared most of the whole zombie cockroach/ pigeon/ chipmunk idea though. That would be the WORST, if our little animal friends turned the evil way... |

| Also: what effect would fan death have on Zombies? Clearly those are the two biggest dangers affecting the world today; perhaps there's some way we could get them to cancel each other out...if you fan-deathed a zombie, would it die again? |

That's nothing.
I was wondering what effect an outbreak would have on world cultures. Would Mexicans still have a Dia de Los Muertos in a world with zombies? Would America still have a Halloween? Even if the dead don't get up, what would we do with ours post outbreak?
How would a zombie outbreak affect religion? Negate or reinforce it? What about social constraints? Would people still marry in a post Z world? Would there be more or less breeding? If more, would kids start shacking up at younger ages as in the past?
No guns countries like England, what effect would survival have on the culture? Would people start wearing swords or other weapons at all times again as Max Brooks implies? Would that bring about a resurgence of Medieval values and culture, or merely be a fashion statement?
Would an outbreak lead to greater unity among people or more conflict? What about after it was put down, assuming we win? Would nationalism be eliminated or reinforced? Would expansioninst countries expand? Would 'we' stop them if they did? |

Interesting questions. But the Halloween one is obviously the most vexing and relevant here. The zombies wouldn't have to dress up for the trick or treating and that just ain't fair. |

Have you noticed that when things are going well, religion is frowned upon or even suppressed?
If zombies jumped out of the ground, I can guarantee just about everyone surviving will cling to their immortal souls and a heavy, hard type of religion (like Catholic Spain in the 1500's) would come up....burning people and all. |

That was the jist of 'the mist,' a not-bad horror/ science fiction movie I saw a couple weeks ago. Some dimensional rift (or was it 'the end of days?') splits open and beasties come out and feed on poor townspeople. Many of the people embrace religion as they await their demise. |
