I have tried typing it in at http://www.youtube.com but it keeps redirecting to http://kr.youtube.com/
On the Google homepage I can solve this problem by selecting Google in English at the bottom of the page. I can't seem to find this option on the Youtube page. Any help. Thanks |

what's the big deal? just search using English words and you'll be fine.
Or if you have an id, login and your profile localization will kick in and everything will be in English. |

It actually may become a big deal..this could be seen as the tip of the big deal. Korea is now in a frenzy of filtering, trying to save the Korean youth from the devil pron of foreign lands. Not being able to access the US page of Youtube is one such example...Yahoo is another, though they left the link to the English page up. The Korean government logs all IP traffic through its own portal sites already, and the Korean Youtube is being carefully monitored.
Korea attaches loads of 'personal' info to an IP.
It will be a big deal when the Korean ISPs (all ISPs) start DPI and deciding, as China currently does, what the population can see or not. We think that the net is free, but in actuality, all of the traffic in Korea comes through a very limited set of connections. These can, are and will be tampered with.
I tell you, the net is changing rapidly and this seemingly meaningless language restriction is quite indicative of that. |

You can change the language of the site very easily. I don't know about having your browser automatically direct you to the English site, but if you want to change the language from Korean to English, click:
"국가별 사이트" with a Korean flag next to it.
And select "Global" or if you want British English (can't imagine why you would, though!) choose UK or Australia. |
