Yonsei has a good summary of the rules available for people on a regular university student visa. You are able to work up to 20 hours per week (including at language institutes) during school and that restriction is limited during holiday periods.
Work permits are allowed to the students whose financial ability is not enough to pay for his/her tuition or other living expenses.
This new law is for students whose main purpose of getting a job is for supporting himself/herself as a foreign student in Korea.
It's still a requirement that you prove you have enough cash to cover your living expenses to get a student visa. Interesting. |

I don't think it is. I've heard students haven't needed to show bank account statements lately. I certainly hope I will not have to, since I have under $10,000 now, and my school is sending me on a full scholarship with stipend so I technically don't need any money. |
