I am half Korean, half Chinese so I guess I don't count but my cousin is half Korean, half German. If you saw him, you probably wouldn't notice he was half Korean.

Eurasian76, you've probably realized it just by looking at one of the replies to your message here, but a lot of outright snidely-veiled and maligned comments pop up on any message threads posted by people who are Korean or half-Korean.

i'm portuguese/chinese/italian (macanese ancestry to be more specific).

in california, people think i'm filipino or mexican. australia, got everything from dubai, ecuador, colombia, etc. they rarely guessed me as american, even after hearing me speak. it's not that i don't speak english well, i just have a very soft voice and accent. one japanese guy in japan thought i was japanese. i have no idea why.

korea, i'm just generalized as a waeguk with no particular attention being paid to specifics. sometimes i try explaining my heritage to my korean friends, but in general they just see me as yankee doodle dandy, asking me stupid questions about cheeseburgers and wanting me to cook "american food" for them.

don't remember seeing many eurasians last time i was in korea...i'm not the stereotypical tall blonde blue eyed white dude, so i don't get the same treatment as the other foreigners (can be good and bad).

eurasian76, you're half korean and half what?
there's plenty of us around in seoul, but we're not all that organized. plus many times you can't tell or you don't want to be rude asking.

i've gotten asked if i was everything from mexian/pacific island/black(!!!), but rarely does anyone guess half korean, even in korea of all places Shocked

there are plenty of hafies around korean language schools.

Newfie's a race now too? Does this mean I've gotta change my passport?

Oh, as for the OP, one of my best friends there was German- Korean, but he hated being called Eurasian, said it made him sound like a racehorse.

To be honest, it's really great to see this thread. I have school-age kids who are Korean Kiwis. One day they will be teenagers and I hope they can feel valued and live well, as I hope you guys do.
