hi,

want to go to Thailand in late July...anyone know of a cheap travel agency? doesn't have to be local to me, i can do it over the phone if they are English speaking.

p.s i just need the return flight, i think its cheaper to get accommodation on arrival in Thailand, no?

Which travel agency is cheaper? Wrong question.
It's cheaper to use discount websites.

^ Wrong

You can't buy China Eastern from a website. Has to be a travel agent.

China Eastern are cheap as they come.

Soho travels prices were comparable with the prices we pay in Thailand for my wifes tickets. This was at short notice as well.

I got a 5-day return ticket (Incheon-Bangkok) last year for 250,000 won from Thai Orient Airlines (this was just before the crash on a domestic flight). Flight attendants were sleeping on take-off, and bear in mind that this is a new passenger airline - previously they were used by the UN to transport refugees. But...cheap.

Orient Thai is not that new. Mostly they're a charter carrier for tour packages. A couple of my Korean friends flew them and had HORRIBLE experiences. Spend the extra money and fly someone better. It's worth the extra cost to be sure you'll actually reach your destination.

China Eastern Airlines is one of the large mainland carriers. They and the other Chinese airlines have been investing in new planes, crew training, and so on. China Eastern also operates a nonstop flight from Seoul to Bangkok, and apparently they use a new Airbus A330 on the route. I've flown several other Chinese airlines recently (Air China, China Southern, Shanghai Airlines) and had good experiences so far, so I expect this one to be all right. But you do need to go through a travel agent if you want to book them. (This is the flight I'm taking when I depart Korea in June. I hope they have champagne or at least decent beer.) I've done almost all of my booking through Marco Polo Travel in Itaewon for the last couple of years, and they've been great. 02-757-2300

The missus says they are good. She has been on them twice now on the new direct flight. Only problem she said was the Chinese on the planes being pests and trying to take everybody elses seats so they could sit together.

GOO STEWART

How did you find dealing with Kangsan travel?

Did you request the flight you got, or did you just ask them to find you something cheap?

The missus just called me and told me that China Eastern flights direct are cancelled.

I thought it was the travel agent in Bangkok pulling a fast one and checked their website for next weekends plane that she was meant to be flying on and there are no direct flights listed anymore. They travel via some obscure place in China.
