We've actually managed to get a casual Friday at my hagwon, even though Mon-Thurs involves a pretty lax dress code as well. They've tried to tighten it up recently but I'm finished in three weeks so I'm sure as hell not buying new work clothes at this point. I've managed to scrap almost all of my khakis while in Korea. Good times.

I would wear nice clothes if

a) I didn't teach kindy
b) my hagwon turned on the friggin heat. I've been teaching a jacket most days.

I just signed a new contract today and there was a paragraph in there about the dress code. I was stumped to find how long that paragraph was, detailing everything down to no white socks. Shoes, shirt, ties, type of shirt, pants, you name it. It's in a public school but is after school extracuricular type lessons and ... well suffice it to say I didn't like it and I talked with everyone involved and it's just what they put and don't enforce it at all ... jeans, shirt, t-shoes are all fine in real life and told to ignore the part in the contract, yet they wouldn't just take it out. I don't find much of a dress code here - maybe they just assume white folk are slobs ... dunno

depends on the school. ask whichever school you work at or will work at what there dress code is. i don't mean to sound harsh, but, at the end of the day, it isn't rocket science.

I'm in the kindy crowd and my boss, who's actually done the job himself, never asks us to dress in anything more than a (nice) tee and jeans... Cuz he knows what happens when you wear dress clothes in that environment: You need to buy new dress clothes.

Here's what I do. Go to work dressed moderately. If they think you're under dressed, they'll tell you. If you see everyone in Daisy Duke shorts and tank-tops, well, YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAW!

Where I work, the head guy in the English department came to my house on the weekend and gave me a list of things I can and can't do. When I first went to the academy I was dressed real casual and I reckon that they wanted him to clear that part up. So I have to wear full dress clothes to work. The good thing is I don't teach any youngsters and if someone is giving me the $hit$ I just write in my evaluation and the problem is solved real quickly. If I was teaching Kinder I would not wear what I wear now. I used to have problems with one school, I was forever buying new clothese 'cos the kids would draw on me....
