You are correct. On your USA machine, regular standard-def DVDs will not work unless they are USA region, or region-free.
Korean standard def. DVDs won't work on your USA machine, but blu-rays from Korea or Japan will, as they are in the same blu-ray region. |

In case you didn't understand this -- yes, Blu-rays from Korea, Japan, or the US are all in the same Blu-ray region, and will work on your machine. Blu-ray regions are laid-out differently than standard DVD regions, and include different country combinations. |
