I have a Samsung 32' PAVV LCD TV that's 14kg and I really want to take it home to the US with me. This is probably a stupid idea, but I saw that Korean Air says its 30,000W for an extra check-in baggage, but I'm guess ing that's for something smaller.

Has anyone tried to do something like this with big items with airlines or used shipping options?

Is the power supply of the universal variety (110-240VAC)? If it is only 220-240 it will not work at home so your original question may be moot.

The TV will be oversize and NOT just excess baggage (extra piece or extra weight).

Check with a ticket office for the applicable rate. It may be as high as 1.5% of the ticket price PER KILO (so ticket price * .015 * (14 kilos + the packaging weight) kilos.

Oversize baggage still gets knocked about as much as regular bags, and throwers are under no obligation to treat packages, skis etc any better, no matter how many "fragile" stickers you put on them.. regardless of feasibility, you'd have to be bat sh*t insane to put a TV in the baggage hold on a commercial flight.

Insured shipping would be the only sensible way, which will probably mean it isnt worth it compared to selling the tv here and buying a similar one at home.
