This is above the sink in my kitchen. It is not an oven. It is not a dishwasher. It has a UV light. When I turn it on, the light comes on and it gets toasty inside. It goes up to 80*C. I've asked three Hangul, either they don't know what it is, or don't know what I'm talking about. Anyone?

And if you can give me a hand with how to tag, that would be great :( Tagging FAIL. |

I thought so too, but where do I put the soap? Where does the water come from? |

it's a drying rack for dishes...don't worry- one of my friends put there clothes in it once thinking it was for 'delicate' fabrics. the uv light is to kill germs. |

Nes pas? is 80*C hot enough to sterilize anything? I guess temperature over time, maybe... |

I have one of these as well. My wife tells me it is used to as dish-dyer/virus killer. It uses the UV rays to kill anything on it after you wash it. Similar to the cases that restaurants keep their silver drink glasses in. |

That makes sense... It's the UV light + the heat. Should I be using this on a regular basis? |

There should be a "no baby" (like "no smoking") sign on it. |

Dish sterilisers.
Why don't you people have these in your home countries? Are you all from Backward Caveman Land? Is coming to Korea like a voyage to the 21st century for you?
Well is it? |

If you stick your head in it, it's probably safer to close your eyes.
While your up there, you could give the door a quick wipe? |

I dunno, man, I think the same thing about a lot of things here. Why don't American shopping carts pivot on all four wheels? Why do we build up instead of out (e.g. why isn't Wal*Mart 5 stories high)? Why don't we have adequate public transport in smaller cities? Why do we heat 50 gallons of water 24x7 when we can heat only the amount of water we need when we need it? Why do the lights in the stairwells stay on 24x7 when they only need to be on when someone is there? The Hangul are some smart little buggers. |

Manual dish washing: wash dishes and then use tea towel to dry. Store in cupboard.
Dishwasher: leave dishes in washer to dry. Store in cupboard.
I have yet to be in an apartment and seen any of those racks working correctly. Most seem to be broken. |

There have been a few threads on this board (believe it or not) about things Korea has/does that you wish your country had/did. Every trip back to the West, I find a few things I could add to that list. Something I'm used to having in Korea, and I have to remind myself "oh right, I can't do that/they don't have that here". Though a lot of them aren't even things that I'd personally use, but just little (or big) improvements here & there to the general scheme of things.
