A while back I heard there was a raid on the DVD stalls in Yongsan. Later I heard it was business as usual, so headed over this weekend to check out some TV series.. but I was a little surprised to see the DVD stalls empty or replaced with other electronic trinkets.
So it looks as though someone didn't pay their police bribe this month. Anyone know if the few around TechnoMart are still in existence, or anywhere else for that matter? |

Yeah the days of cheap, pirated dvd's of the latest movies at Yongsan are it seems, a thing of the past. Sad, sad, sad.
You can still find them at Jongno though, Insadong and La Festa if you happen to be an Ilsanian like me. |

One guy was doing it on Saturday in Yongsan, looking very shifty, and raking in the money. Rather than having a folder, you told him what you wanted and came back 10 minutes later to collect it and pay. Based on this, and how much money the guy was obviously making, I don't think it'll even be as long as 6 months before everything's back to normal. |

Yeah, I was probably talking to the same guy (under the Gwangwang terminal). The thing is, we went there to browse. We didn't know what we wanted and those folders are really convenient to look at. Also got told it would be about 10 minutes, and that it was "far away", so I'm guessing it's now a little pricier than usual.
I forgot about the guys in Jongno/Insadong.. I'll check them out. |

It would be much easier and cheaper if you would simply download them for free off the internet. Either way they are pirated and instead of nobody making money, you are giving another guy money for pirating it. There are plenty of websites out there and I have enjoyed many classic movies and TV shows. I have heard that Mininova is a great website, all you have to do is download uTorrent and you can download most movies or TV shows. |

Believe me, I'm familiar with torrents and am part of a few private trackers.
I do enjoy grabbing shows for myself online, but when it comes to looking for TV series for the lady, sometimes it's just easier to plop down $40 for like 7 series.. it saves me time and energy.
By the way, check out btjunkie.org. I sometimes find it's a better public tracker than mininova. |

Same here. Rather than go through the trouble of finding Korean subtitles online and hoping that they're "proper" and not just some gibberish (as is sometimes the case), I'll go with semi-pirated DVDs with the proper subtitles any day. It's worth it for peace of mind (as well as being able to enjoy a DVD at home with the lady).
That said, there's a guy outside of Jonggak station that has some good DVDs for cheap. At least he was there last month... |

So what's the word on the street - are things back to normal?
Anyone been to Yongsan recently? Do tell, as I'd hate to trek it all the way over there just to find out. |

If you head straight across the street from Yongsan station...there were a couple of guys down in that direction as well.
I'm a little further south...around Suwon...and Songtan has had some great selections recently. |

I was there last saturday...
There were a bunch beside nanjin arcade (lower level) as well as outside the terminal building and along the street by the son-in plaza.
Not as many as before but maybe back up to 20 vendors.... |
