| Why do some people find it so hard to believe a white/American woman would want to date an Asian/Korean guy? Sorry, just because the Asian male doesn't float your boat (presuming you're a hetero male) that doesn't mean that a hetero female can't feel the allure of an Asian man. The whole "why would anyone be attracted to an Asian man" thing is just such a ridiculous stereotype. |
Cause the stereotype of Asian/Korean men is that they are rude chauvinists.
This is also why the article in the OP is so funny! |
Rude chauvinists... Um, at least, I haven't seen many of them among the young Korean guys of my age (I'm 25) to even stereotype them that way. Have you? |
I said it was the stereotype, not that it was true. I haven't met any 20-something Korean guys in the three months I've been in Korea (not one!) so I really don't know. |
That's true. Young Korean guys generally totally different. Definately more accurately steriotyped as sensitive and romantic (or jealous nerdy mamas-boys |

| It's a little old but the article never gets tired. Then again, how many North American males came here because of hot Korean chicks they've seen in movies? |
I have, for years watched an average of 7 films a week or more. Before coming to Kroea and watchign a few Korea films, I'd never seen (knowingly) a Korean woman in a film. I'd expect that that goes for around 99.9 of the male esl teahers here....
This Korea wave thing in Asia is like the 'Irish wave' that began in the Uk arournd 10 years ago. The romantacised imnage of the rough but romantic, lyrical Irishman... soon it was Irish pubs all over and stag do's / hen nights in Dublin and people walking into work saying things like 'top o the morn to ya' in a bad Irish accent.... Don't know if anyone remembers that period, but I SWEAR it was the gingernut Chris Evans that started it on TGIF.... He was always rambling on about trips to Ireland and promoting guiness on his shows and grandstanding Irish celebrities etc... |

Same here. If I'd seen a Korean movie in the past I must have mistook it for a Japanese film. Honestly the first time I ever heard of the "Korean wave" was when I got to Korea. |

"Riverdance" had a lot to do with that.
"Riverdance received the magazine's "Irish Heritage" award. A film clip showed the actor John Hurt asserting that the renowned dance and music extravaganza "put Ireland on the map as the sexiest country in Europe".

True for me, too . . . I was in Vietnam and the Philippines, though--it was sick how much they watch Hanguk Du-ra-ma! every evening for hours! . . . I was explaning to my fiancee's sister (a filipina), look it's not really like that, Korean men aren't like that!--Actually, though, when I was in the Philipppines I'd get ask a lot about "available" friends I might have and everytime I'd mention my best friend who's Korean, they most often times passed, usually saying Korean men aren't kind--it definetly hasn't hit Manila, I'll say that much . . . Funny, though, I've started to meet a lot of college girls in the US (I said that right, the US!!!) who like Korean Drama, but usually Asian-Americans . . . |
