Serious question to pose and sorry if it's a repeat, but why do Koreans allow their children to put half their bodies out the sunroof or window when travelling along the road. Also, little babies are in the front seat w/o car seats and if the airbag goes off, it's a death trap.
This is by no means a thread to attack Korean's logic, but is there a reason why more safety precautions are not taken in road safety for children. Even if you're the best driver in the world and feel you won't be in an accident, it only takes one mistake from someone else to send your child through the windshield. |

At least they are in cars.
The other less well off countries in Asia they ride with their babies under their arms on motorbikes (whilst smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer) |

They did have a law in place to force parents to use child seats for their kids. Mothers protested and the law was overturned. The mothers complained that the children wouldn't sit still in such seats and would be uncontrollable. Better to let them stick their heads out the sunroof. |

Natural Selection. If the kid, and parent, are dumb enough to stick ones head out a window, or allow it, and the kid dies from it, it's just natures way of ensuring that the better genes survive. |

Yep. I've seen this on countless occasions in Vietnam. Four people on a scooter. One kid sandwiched between mum and dad, and another in the footwell.
In Saigon, it often ends badly. Hardly a day passed when I didn't see some poor cnut under a blanket by the side of the road. |

I've always wondered why they let the kids wear the same clothes (usually t-shirts) everyday!? I know the mothers generally care, and have money... |

this is not a safety conscience society. Everybody thinks that bad things won't happen to them. |

What cracks me up is the way almost every time I get in a vehicle's rear seat and buckle up, the driver or another occupant tells me, "Only the people in the front seat must wear safety belts" or "Only the driver must wear safety belts." Odd thing, though, is that the driver license manual includes a section listing fines for various offenses. One of the offenses is failure to have all occupants of the vehicle using safety restraints. |

They haven't had a Ralph Nader type yet to school them in such matters. They've only had cars for about twenty years, and they're not wise to massive head injuries yet.
Once Hyundai starts marketing kiddy seats you can bet sales--rather than heads, as is presently the case--will go through the roof.
Or perhaps they might make a popular tearjerker drama about a handsome single father whose wife has been killed in a car accident, and whose child is all gimped up from the passenger side airbag. 'If only the Hyundai Kid-Saver Car Seat had been available...sob...'
It'll happen. Hopefully soon, while they still can afford cars. |

Sorry to correct you, but if I'm not mistaken, that law has been on the books for a while now (and remains so).
The issue was the enforcement of it.
The "parents associations" deemed it too difficult for many families to afford compliance (too small of cars and such). |

Apology accepted.
What you said makes sense, but that sounds like a small minority of drivers. Most of the mums I see driving around can afford it. But again what I say is open to correction. |

Okay so we've had a number of posters throw in their 2 cents worth, but fundamentally no-one has yet truthfully answered the question.
Now we all know what the real answer is (don't we) BUT no-one wants to tell the truth, as it wouldn't be politically correct.
You want the truth! You can't handle the truth!
Leave it to GoldMember to get straight to the point.

I disagree with the original premise. Beloved children don't work 70+ hour weeks. |
