|
|
My school wants to move me out of my apartment and into a new one. They find my theory that they should put up some form of deposit controversial and seem intent on squeezing me into the first grimy shoe box that will take me. Hence they have asked me to provide a list of schools who have done this (provided a deposit to ensure their teachers have decent accomodation.)
If you fit that category , as many people I've spoken to do. Please could you message me your school name. Alternatively could you give me the contact details of anyone at Gepik for my school to call and deal with ?
Kind regards
Bovine. |

Truth be told, you really don't have a choice of where they stable you. Mine and the other teacher that lives in my village have quite decent apartments, mind you, they aren't large but they're new and nicer than many surrounding ones. My school asked if I wanted a larger apt when my wife came but I declined as I'm quite satisfied where I'm at and it's enough for me and my wife. Also, the larger the apt the more monthly bills to pay. |

I don't want to list my school, but I am at a public school in Anyang. School put down 10 million key and pays 600,000 won a month for a 14.47 pyeong one bedroom (not studio, like a real bedroom) apartment.

My school put me in a 1 room last year. It had a deposit, as the owner tried to avoid paying it back by claiming I had left the country without paying the bills. I had reciepts and was still in the country, so he was quickly made to pay up.
Anyway... it was a pretty small deposit, as they didn't want to pay any more when I got married. I paid the key money on my new apartment, and am glad I did once they started acting like dicks this year.
I'm almost free! |

That's what I want. The idea of living in a studio apartment is barbarism...how can they call this first world living ? |

My place up the road from ffilps was 10mil down 350k a month.
They told me this year I could get a bigger place but would have to make up the difference myself and they would pay the 10mil and 300k if I moved.
Thought about it and decided bugger that and still live in a nice new but small box. |

My school put down more than a 10,000 won deposit and I pay an additional 500,000 won for a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath apartment apartment close to the school. This is the best place I've lived in bar none since married life.
First place they offered us was the two bedroom mouse trap that the previous teacher lived in. Only 2 people could eat at one time in the kitchen. Since I had signed the contract there was not much I could do since Gepik only has to provide a 2 bedroom if you have kids. I sent my co-teacher an email saying it was too bad that I could only work there for one year due to the living conditions. Within a week they had a nice apartment for us.
On a side note, the elementary school beside mine was given the green light three months ago to get a foreign teacher but still hasn't found a teacher. If your school doesn't want to hold on to you by providing a decent place to live, then they don't know how slim the pickings are out there for foreign teachers. |

My mistake I mean 10,000,000 won. Somehow I'm always missing zero's when it comes to Korean money...especially in my bank account. |
