|
|
I've had my macbook for just over 2 years now, I got it a few days after it was released and it has served me better than any PC I ever owned.
It's finally starting to slow down, especially the internet browsers.
I was wondering if anyone knew how I could clean up the harddrive and get it processing quickly again. I've cleared my history, cookies, etc in mozilla and I've got plenty of space on my harddrive, as I put everything on my external, but I'm hoping there's a way to fix this.
Thanks! |

Go to Applications > Utilities > Disc utility.
Choose your hard drive from the list and click "repair disc permissions".
This could take over 20 minutes if you've never done it. It should be done at least monthly.
Also, are you downloading the automatic software upgrades? Do have a lot of hard drive space used up? Do you have a lot of stuff saved to the desktop? |

my uni requires macs for our program and as such, we have 24 hr help lines at our disposal for macs - is wonderful.
so I called them about a week ago asking pretty much the same question as you did - only my mac isn't that old
it was recommended to me to download AppCleaner first and foremost:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32740
when you erace files on the mac, the space isn't reclaimed initially until you physically set out to do so. this needs to be done with either a program or reformatting the hard drive. that's what this program will do - reclaim the old space where you trashed something. in windows we'd defrag but we don't do that with a mac.
another software which was suggested is the MacJanitor - also a clean up tool - but a little different - you can read more here and decide if you want to use it or not:
http://lifehacker.com/software/downloads/download-of-the-day--macjanitor-mac-223926.php
hope this helps. |

Thanks..I think I'm going to try reformatting it. I think it's been overheating too, because whenever I video chat, and I have more programs than just iChat running, it just kind of dies and shuts down. Is there an Apple Repair store here? I've seen the resellers in Apgujeong, I just don't know if they can repair also. |

I've been using a laptop for over 5 years. The first thing I did with my first one was to buy 2 of those 1000 won lattice multicolored heating pads for hot pots to be placed on a table.
They are just the right size for a nb computer, allow air to circulate underneath and are cheap and easy to use. I bring them along w/me in the nb case. I use them between the nb and a pillow when it's in my lap -
I use my nb a lot and have never had it overheat (yet, knock on wood) but yes, they all do get hot. The trick is to know when to shut them down and let them cool off. |
