I'm angry!

I heard someone yelling outside my window tonight. My idiot neighbor was outside, smoking a cigarette, holding a bottle of beer, and obviously angry. What could he be doing? Well, guess! He was chasing away the kitten that sleeps everyday/night under our building. How could he be that angry at a kitten? And what the hell could he be yelling? "How dare you helpless kitten sleep under my home? I will make sure you suffer even more than you do now!" He even took the full cat food dish I use to feed the strays with and dumped it out. I really got pissed off at that. I came close to going outside. At times like this I hate being a foreigner. If I were to start a fight, I'd risk losing everything, probably end up in jail and then deported. I really wanted to kill that guy. The poor kitten ran away through the snow and into some cold bushes. It's utterly freezing outside here. Well, I didn't start a fight but as soon as my drunk neighbor retired, I went right outside, picked up the dish and filled it with more tuna. If he does it again, I'll find a way to get even...trust me.

If Koreans didn't hate cats so much we'd be able to eat cat soup here.

What's up with Koreans and cats? I have a rescue kitten doing a lap-dance right now, who was about to be kicked from his home. The locals seem to have no problem with dogs; they're either tiny, overdressed trophys, or a potential meal. Cats have no standing in this land, and that's simply unfair. The attititude toward domestic animals in this country leaves much to be desired.

H.S: It's late in the evening, but irrespective of your political views, your anti-animal views would indicate that you're a very lonely man. Perhaps it's time to consider letting someone else into your life. I've never met you, and if the gods are on my side, I never will. But I've developed a certain amount of pity for you and your ongoing bitterness. I hope that things will some day get better for you. For the record, I grew up around animals. I've got two dogs for God's sake. Most people, however, see the value in not feeding strays because they start coming to an area in huge numbers when you do that.

I already mentioned the noise, but lets not forget the crap they leave behind, and have you ever woken up in the morning and seen paw prints on your car from a stray cat?

That's exactly why feeding strays isn't a good idea. If you're so gung ho about helping the "poor wittle animals" why don't you adopt 'em? Instead you're inconveniencing your neighbors. And that's why I'd be pissed if you were feeding strays next door to me.

I love cats. I can understand why Koreans may not though. Cats tend to shed a lot and this can be a problem if you eat sitting on the floor without carpet.

However, I think that the Korean dislike goes deeper than hair.

Koreans should realize the benefit of cats though. Cats are excellent mosquito stalkers. I never had roaches in Canada and don't now in Korea, but cats would make great roach killers, just make sure there is no poison down. Cats kill a lot of insects. They also kill rats. I see rats on the street more often than necessary ie. once or twice is too much if there are cats about.

I would be scared to have a cat here. First it would be abused if I let it outside, and I would be scared it would do some daft jump onto the slippery metal bannister at my window hoping to perch, but fall fourteen floors onto some kid, maiming them at the same instant as dying.

Im gonna back up Hank. What you are doing is basically creating a place where all the filthy, dirty, disease carrying strays in town will congregate. I saw such a thing in Rome, where a crazy assed woman feeds a bunch of dirty, disgusting stray cats right by the Colosseum. Its a disgusting sight. Those things carry diseases, man. Do you think this owner should be happy that these filthy animals are coming around his building?

Well I like cats, in fact I had 2 GREAT cats here. Having said that, I will add that I don�t like cats outside, caterwauling at all hours of the night. Additionally, when a female cat is in heat, the noise is unbearable. I see both sides and partially agree with both sides here.

Well, I have to agree with Shawner88. Fattening up strays is the only way to get cat meat where it belongs: in the supermarket. Once Koreans see a few fat kittens they'll realise that there's an entire feline culinary world out there just waiting to be explored.

I say do what you want to do. A lot of people here in Korea are really mean to animals, that it is good to see somebody being nice and caring. That said, some posters have a good point about too many strays making hay. Be good if you could befriend a few and make them family?
