Check out Los Amigos, which had its "soft opening (as in not full-fledged)" last weekend. I went there last night and the food was GREAT! The chef is a Mexican American from Los Angeles.

The place is located in the hotel behind Helios. The space is pretty wide and interior great with big screen TV. On May 30th, the joint will have a non-Philippine rock band live.

Check it out, the food was better than On the Border in Sinchon.

Not only is this hard to believe, but it brings me great joy.

How are their prices and portions? Do they have tequilas and margaritas?

no doubt it will be overpriced, as goes with any kind of "authentic" foreign food in korea.....plus it's in a hotel? i think it will be quite expensive.... maybe prices similar to la tavola or whatever it's called

Well, the prices ranged between 13,000 and 20,000 won, but I'm thinking they might adjust them downwards. A Cass draft was 3,000 won.

But the food is GREAT!

13,000-20,000 won for Mexican food? Tourist trap.

Or a kickass burrito at Dos Tacos (in Gangnam or Hongdae) for 7,500 won.

Taco Chili Chili is really close to Itaewon. You're not going to find a better burrito in Korea. Owner is Korean, lived in Mexico City for 25 years.

chili chili, choi's, and dos tacos, in no particular order, are all solid n my book. i also dig on the border because of the variety and margaritas. i'm psyched to hear that there's a new place in itaewon though. in my opinion, you can't have enough of a good thing. i'm just waiting for the naysayers to get into an argument about whether mexican here even rates! snobs!

Santa Fe was my home before I moved to Korea. New Mexican green chile is awesome.

New Mexican green chile is different than Korean go choo. I would like to have some New Mexican green chile.

I had Thai green curry for dinner last night.

Kinda sad. I remember going to Rosarita and Ensenanda on spring break, getting 6 dollar lobsters and 40 cent beef/fish tacos (for 3). that was quite a few years back, but I wax nostalgic thinking about eating Mexican food in Korea.

You know what's really sad. I asked my students today (I teach in Cheogngu), what's a good local restaurant. They said Applebees. Oh man, how pathetic is that. I'd rather have kimchi and a can of tuna than applebees.

I just got back from this Los Amigos place and it ain't half bad...Nice clean new place with decent chicken enchiladas and downright tasty chunky fresh salsa...13,000 won for the enchiladas...I like the Burrito at Dos Tacos too and at 7500 won that might be eating smarter but this joint was actually a little more upscale...The salsa was worth the trip.

I must be older than you as I remember getting lobster for $3 in Ensenada, and 10 cent vegetarian tacos in Guadalajara. (I do go back awhile.)

Anyway, could someone clarify: is this a New Mexican restaurant or a new Mexican restauarant?
