Hi, I was initially considering only jobs in Seoul but we are having a hard time trying to find one at the moment. I had an offer come through for Incheon and was wondering what the good and bad things are about living here?
It only takes 40 minutes (apparently) to get to central areas of Seoul, I have been told that it takes longer even from some of the outlying suburbs in Seoul. Is there pretty much everything Seoul has to offer but on a smaller scale? Good restaurants, gyms, bars, shops, etc? |

Don't trust a word the recruiter says.
There are plenty of jobs in Seoul.
If you want to work there, say so.
If he says something is "near" something, that means absolutely nothing.
Recruiters are largely scum. |

well we are looking for 'couple' jobs so it narrows the search down a fair bit.
Anyway, I'm just looking for some info on the place just in case were being stupid narrowing it down to Seoul and it's suburbs only when it could be quicker and more convenient getting to Seoul from a city outside of these suburbs. |

i agree, it's a bit more difficult to find a 'couple' job in seoul it seems.
that's where i am now, with my boyfriend, but it took a while and lots of research. |

I haven't been to Bupyeong in almost 2 years, but from what I remember it's decent for Incheon. It's not far from South-West Seoul (especially considering the express subway train that goes to Yongsan in about 30 minutes), but that's it.
I'd rather live and work in Seoul, and if you look around enough you should be able to find something. |

You might want to post the name of the school and the contract. There seems to be a lot of bad schools that converge in Incheon. |

I've address this before, and I'll do so again. Incheon is a decent place to live and a good choice for a Seoul satellite city. Parks, sports teams, decent nightlife (in Bupyeong)... most haters of the place never made enough of an effort to network within the city and spend all their time commuting to Seoul anyway.
Been here 2 years, coming back for a third (but moving a little closer to Seoul in Bucheon).
PM me if you have any more questions. |

Incheon is a toilet. You think Korea is backwards and primitive in
general? Incheon is worse. This was about the last major city to
have a TGIFs or a Bennigan's. (not that that is fine dining) The pop-
ulation is over 3.5M, bit it still does not have a Costco. There are
also no good bars to speak of. The dingy holes that call themselves
bars here are crap. 99.99% of the bars are boring cookie cutter
dumps with boring food and local beer (wek!)
The only saving graces of this place are:
1/ Proximity to Seoul. But if you go to Seoul on the weekend (which
you will), you will have to leave all the revelry at about 10:00PM
to catch the last bus or subway home. So, why not just live in Seoul.
2/ The islands off the coast i.e. Deokjeokdo have great parties with
lots of mighty whities. |

You will regret choosing Incheon over Seoul.
It's true.
You are welcome. |

What these last two posters said hit the nail on the head. I would never in a million years come here again knowing what I know now. Yes, you can get to Seoul in less than an hour with no traffic, but as cohiba said, you have to come home super early or pony up for a hotel room. I thought, judging from the map, that Incheon would be like a slightly smaller version of Seoul and I couldn't have been more wrong. It is not even in the same galaxy. If you are in Bupyeong and want to network maybe that would be ok, but I would NEVER advise someone to come here. That's just my two cents. |

I love Incheon. I spent two years there and never even thought of going into Seoul for a job. I went into Seoul a dozen times in two years to have a good time. It was fun, but incredibly expensive. I went out with my foreign and korean friends in Incheon every weekend and saved money without sacrificing a bit of enjoyment. I'm also a very outgoing and positive guy, so it's easier for me to make friends, so if you don't make friends easily, Seoul with give you better odds to click with someone, as there are tons of foreigners there in comparison. |
