Hi my name is Michael Oakley. I have been selected to organize the International Noise Conference (INC) for Seoul sometime in September. I guess I am shaking the tree to see what falls down. I am still putting together a line up, about 10 acts, to play sets for this show. As implied by the name this is a 'noise' show, but this isn't for laptop, ambient, knob-turners. This is for off the wall insanity in the spirit of old punk rock shows, where anything was possible.

There are a few rules for the bands playing this show just to keep things interesting: Sets are 15 minutes or under, No laptops, No mixers, and No droning.

A little bit about the INC, it was started by Rat Bastard in Miami as an annual get together for noise musicians from all around the world. A 3 day event with usually over 100 bands playing, hanging out, living in the venue parking lot. Anyway, story has it that Rat won the lottery and is taking the show around the world and is asking someone from each city to curate. They have already finished a USA tour and going to Japan and Korea in the fall.

I already have a venue and most of the acts, but I just wanted to reach out see if there are any weirdo, noise punks out there that what in on this. This show isn't exclusive to just solo noise musicians, and in fact I want crazy, spazzy, loud bands to play, just nothing typical or already wildly available at any venue on any given night.

Also, I am looking for people to help with promotion and some of the grunt work of putting up flyers, making flyers (in Korean and English, anyone know any silk screeners?)

here is some more information about this:

And here I thought this was going to be about noise pollution in the city that could most do with such a conference.

I would be interested in going. But I will probably not be able to help out with promotion etc.

But keep in touch with where it will be at.

Hi Michael,

Any chance this'll coincide with this year's experimental film and video fest (EX-iS)? That's slated for Sept. as well.

I used to play tenor sax through a wah wah pedal in a three piece band we called fuckcore (both a genre and a band). We were sort of a more musically diverse anal cunt.

We made three CDs: each one a five step process:

1. Sit down, drink, come up with offensive song titles.
2. Drummer and bass player record tracks end to end calling out song titles, all ad-libbed, loud and fast as hell. Sax player continues to drink.
3. Record the wah wah sax tracks over the drum and bass tracks.
4. Set up a mic in front of a mattress. Jump up and down on the mattress and make up vocals. Continue drinking.
5. Mix.

We never performed live. Things would have gotten out of hand had we tried.

Unfortunately these days everything I do violates your criteria (computer based programmed stuff), but I could put something noisy and punkish together.

So, Justice Yeldham = Lucas Abela (Dual Plover)

Respect. It is a good show he puts on.

Set times?
