|
|
I'm heading over soon and trying to get all my stuff finished so I'm not running around like an idiot 5 hours before my flight leaves....
Is it simpler to just bring travelers' checks or ORDER the won? I keep reading about having to ORDER Korean money, I'm not sure what nonsense that is, maybe to have it when I get there? Or can I get it at the airport? I don't know, the most experience I have with foreign currency is the Euro and Canadian money, that's IT.
So, get checks before I leave or bring American dollars and exchange them when I get there?
Also, I saw the words Gwangju and Starbucks in the same sentence, whoever posted THAT made my day |

You should be able to get won at most airports. The thing to do would be to take several hundred dollars worth of won with you and also take an ATM card that would allow you to draw more from machines capable of accepting international cards. |

Just bring your bank cards from home and you'll be grand but if you do decide to take cash to exchange for won I'd avoid air port banks as it's usually more expensive to exchange money at them compared with banks that are out side of the airport. |

DO NOT BUY WON OUTSIDE OF KOREA!!!
You get killed on the exchange rate. Buy your won IN Korea.
The rates at the exchange counters at the airport here are the SAME as the same branded bank in town.
You can bring whatever currency your have in your home country UNLESS you are from Scotland. Don't bring Scottish pounds. Bring British pounds.
If you are from Canada or the states, bring dollars (CDN or USD). Both are easy to covert here.
You can also bring an ATM card (VISA or Cirrus) as well as your credit card (VISA or M/C).

don't bother with traveller's cheques, it's soooo complicated to change at the bank- i had a very bad experience.
and you'll find starbucks (and other coffee shops: coffee bean & tea leaf, holly's coffee, etc) EVERYWHERE. |
