I'll be in Hokkaido for 2 weeks in August and would love to get suggestions on where to go. Our plan is to spend a week exploring Sapporo and the rest somewhere scenic. Hokkaido is so big I havent narrowed down which city/cities to visit outside of Sapporo.

I'm looking for a place thats scenic and pretty slow but not so remote that we'd need a car to get around. We're not really into clubs, more like good little noodle joints in the morning and maybe some cool outdoor activities like whitewater rafting.

I'd highly appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

We figured-out the most of the plan: While staying for a few days in Sapporo, we'll wander abouts the city (Beer Museum, etc) and take the rail to Furano to visit Farm Tomita and the Cheese Factory. Then we'll head out to stay in the boonies near Akan for a few days and maybe check out Kamuiwakka Falls in Shiretoko National Park.

The plan is to look for a nice seaside town a few days before the flight that's closer to the airport. Any suggestions? I'm looking into Otaru but somewhere in Western Hokkaido would be good too. Anyone heard, or stay at the Shakotan Area before?

Thanks!

How are you going there? Flying from Incheon to Chitose? How much is it? I'm interested in going to Hokkaido myself.

I flying from Gwangju to Chitose for $829.55 Vayama. If you're flying from Incheon it's cheaper - book with these people, it was the best deal I found, but didn't make sense for me since I'm coordinating flights and it's a pain for me to get to Incheon. If you just want to fly from Incheon to Tokyo, it was for 500,000 KRW with the same agency.

I almost forgot, Sancho gave a great deal from ICN to CTS too (745,000 - 845,000 KRW) but depending on your departure date, it might be all booked.
