Hi everyone, I'd like to spend in the 200 000-300 000 range for a basic point and shoot camera. I never print pics or edit them, it's basically just for my blog. I don't need a lot of features because I'm too lazy to use them.

What do you think? Something basic and cheap but takes quality pictures.

Sony Cybershot 8.1 mp. Good quality camera.

Stay away from low-end Nikons. High-end ones are nice, as are most mid-range ones, but low-ends are awful.

Canon or Sony will do you fine in this price range.

IF you are just using it for blogging and have no intention of printing them out later then a simple 5 megapixel P&S is more than enough.

The max pic size you want it 1024*768 (and often smaller) if you are just using it for the web. Anything over 3.3 megapixel is just wasted but the technology in that age of camera is also outdated.

A basic 5 megapixel camera with a hand size that is comfortable for you would do the job. Spend the extra 10-20k won and get a bigger memory chip or even an EXTRA chip in case one of them goes bad on you when it is not convenient (static can kill them).

You should be able to find nice cameras in that range for about 100-150k at the nanjin arcade or even just at the I'Park mall above Yongsan station.

An alternative place to look would be at Namdaemun (next to the burned out gate) but they tend more to DSLRs than P&S.

I purchased a Kodak 12 megapixel camera from the building behind iPark in Yongsan for 200,000. It has quite a few features. If you want to look it up online I believe, off the top of my head, it was the Kodak Z1285 Easy Share. It even takes video in HD if you want.

I know you don't plan on using it beyond your blog, but for 200,000 (the lower end of your price range) might as well get a decent one.

Any of the Canon SD series - aka Ixus/Elph. HIghest rated p&s cameras for a long time (about 10 years). Solid.

i'm going to go a different route and recommend the olympus 1030 sw.

this camera is waterproof to 10 meters, shock resistant, has 10mp, and is an awesome camera.

it's retailing for around 350,000 won ... but you couldn't go wrong.

i'll be buying one in a few months, as a backup to my DSLR.

Waterproof could be tons of fun, but for what this guy needs I'm going to suggest he go with an older or even used model.


The previous poster who said he won't need more than 3 megapixels was absolutely right. Get something with maybe 3-6 megapixels that has a good lens, good sensor, and snappy response times and you'll be very satisfied.

Unfortunately I wouldn't know what models that would include off the top of my head, but a "high end" powershot from a couple generations back would be a good bet, and probably quite cheap.

Get a Canon with Optical Image Stabilization.

I've had Casio, Sony, Canon, and Kodak cameras. The Canon always has better pictures.

The only drawback with Canon is that their camera's aren't as sexy as their competitors. Hell, all the canon's look the same.

Trust me, if you want to take pictures for your blog 3MP is all you need. Lens and ISO performance are FAR more important than the number of megapixels.


I think it may have even been on this board there was a discussion about a professional photographer who was using a 3 or 3.6MP as his main camera, and a guarantee you his pictures would blow a 10MP point and shoot out of the water.

Pretty much the perfect camera was/is the fuji F10/20/30/31fd series camera. 6mp, super iso performance, etc. too bad they're discontinued. Good thing i got one before they were.
