1. 300,000 fee that they give you when you first arrive.. if you renew, do you get that 300k again?

2. the airfare for the return home leg at the end of first contract, as a part of the renewal contract round trip home and back, is it contingent upon another 6 months of waiting? shouldn't it be clear of any further obligations?

3. do they give you new households items to replace the worn out items at the end of the term, eg., bed sheets, pots and pans, etc.

The 300k is a one time thing from what I understand. As to the items, I wouldn't expect them to replace them. Truth of the matter is if you leave and a new teacher comes in they just give em the same old ones.

1. 300k was one-time only.

2. Good question. I think the return portion of the first ticket is owed for completing anyways and they can't touch it. After all, you completed your contract. I would guess the second part (the TO Korea part) could have the same restrictions as a regular airfare. That is, if you don't complete the first six months, you pay that back. Not gospel, but it makes sense to me...the again, TIK.

I understand where you're coming from but it's not really that 'far fetched' -

While suspect the vast majority of schools will not give a FT any extra money to replace 'worn out' household items, my school (district) did. I arrived last Sept. and received my W300,000 relocation allowance. In Oct. my co-teacher informed me there was W600,000 in the budget for me to spend on items for my apartment (it was fully furnished, but I'd been complaining about my "piece of junk" couch). Spending the money was a bit of a bureaucratic 'nightmare' (they had to have specs. - length, height, width, weight, model number etc. - for everything), but well worth the 'hastle'. Once I had all the information on everything I wanted and the paperwork was completed, myself, my co-teacher and the school inspector went shopping with the school district credit card. Very Happy In the end, we spent over a million (I now have a beautiful, super-comfortable leather couch and a new desk among other things).

This last April, I was informed I could spend another W500,000 but haven't done so yet because there's nothing I need. Cool

Ok. That is very nice of your district to set aside budget for you. I doubt it happens very much though.

I had a similar experience, When I arrived my apartment was pretty well furnished (but VERY LIGHT on cookware, utensils, crockery etc). MY co-teacher mentioned something about "there being some money left over" and whether I needed anything. As the I have cooked twice since I've been in Korea, I decided I didn't need anything... If my cooking habits suddenly change, I'll definitly ask for some equipment Smile

If you quit a few months into a 2nd contract, you should pay back 50% of the airfair for your home leave. This is what I expected from my GEPIK contract (different but the same Razz ), and it is what I have been told to do now that I have resigned.

My school are being cool about it all. They said I should just pay it back before I leave. I have told them I will pay it from my final "full" salary, so they will have it around 1 week before I leave.

Airfares....

To Korea to start the contract.
from Korea to finish the contract.
That is part of the FIRST contract.

The airfare to come back to Korea on the second contract.
That I believe is what you owe....not 50% of both airfares.

The numbers end up the same (or nearly so), but they have a funky way of getting there.
