I've wanted to visit Namhae for a while with my girlfriend. Since a reservation will need to be made, I'm looking for some recommendations about places to stay - If anyone has stayed there, where and what type of accommodation was it, how was it and how costly etc - Looking for all options, but preferably non-expensive ones..

AFAIK, Namhae has a Hilton Resort but it's pretty expensive.

Absolutely no need to make reservations in May or June.

I live nearby and go there often in the non-winter months.

Simply GO!

It is not a place to overplan. Make a list of beaches, the mountain everyone climbs, the sports complex if so inclined and just go!

Here's a number for a small mimbak in the German Village. Nice view and I think it is 60,000 for a little cottage with a small kitchen.

Has anyone ever stayed at the Sports Park Hotel in Namhae?

That cottage in the German village is good for 2 maybe more. Have a Korean call and ask because the owners don't speak enlgisheee.

Namhae sports park hotel is crap....

I have a friend who owns a mimbak on a pretty nice sandy beach. He doesn't speak english. He get's pretty crowded so you have to book in advance. It's kind of pricey. 80,000- 100,000 for a room with a double bed that sleeps 2-4 people. He also has some bigger korean stlye (sleep on the floor) rooms. Have a Korean call him. It's on Dugok Weolpo beach in Namhae.

Are there local buses that run from the German village to other parts of the island?

What are the local restaurants like?

I am planning a fishing trip for my boyfriend and his friends and any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

When you get to Namhae you will arrive in Namhae-eup. There is decent bus service to every part of the island. Hourly or every two hours at the most. They have a good tourist map. Sometimes it can be tricky to figure out the bus times from the small villages (German Village) and beaches in the country but it adds to the adventure.

Namhae has a Lotteria, Baskin Robbins, and Mr. Pizza in Namhae-eup. Out in the country near the beaches there are lots of seafood restaurants but you can also find galbi and sam gyup sal. The Hilton has good pizza at a reasonable price but drinks and the rest of the food are outrageous.

I always see people fishing off the rocks in the little villages. I here you can hire boats to take you to little islands but I don't have any specific info for that.

There are tons of little mimbaks all over the place. Sangju Beach is nice but during the summer vacation it is a madhouse. Actually all of Namhae is a madhouse during summer vacation. I recomend coming before or after break....

Thanks so much for taking the time...I found a phone number of a company that rents out boats for the day...my boyfriend and a few of his friends are going fishing for an afternoon.

I will post here after the trip if I find more info that may help future travelers.

What are the facilities like in the Minbaks? Do you have to share bathroom facilities?

And why is Sports Park Hotel crap? For 80,000 a night you can get a pretty nice room from what I can tell. That's already miles better than the hotels in Gwangju.

I stayed at the Sports park hotel. It was built for the World cup in 02. One of the soccer teams stayed there. It has very basic rooms with a decent view of the ocean. I expected it to be much nicer than it was. They do have a nice gym on the second floor and there is an indoor pool at the sports park that you could use.

In my opinion you could find much nicer places for 80,000 if you had transportaion and you were not staying during the peak season.

Well you see I only plan to stay for 2 nights and 3 days, during a busy time of the season. So it would be best to have good access to facilities, food and transportation. That's why I'm thinking the Sports Park Hotel is best for me. Am I wrong?
