If the pension service and tax office and health insurance investigated/uadited your old employer and found that you had not paid in, then yes, they CAN demand that you back pay for all the time you've been here.

However, I would ask for some sort of official written notice from those services before allowing your employer to take more money from you. That could be a scam. If it is, it's one I haven't heard before.

Well I have no idea, but I went to pension last week and was told that my former employer (the one that got me evicted cause she didn't pay rent) didn't pay pension. I asked what I needed to do and they said nothing. I asked if I could file a report and they said no. I told her I paid money and asked if I was in trouble. She said no.

So. Let's review. Korea is so frickin' wonderful that a legal requirement--pension--is not paid. Pension is well aware of this (THEY told me, I didn't ask) and yet does jack nothing about it. Reports can't be filed against the school and pension does the good old Korean thing of DOING NOTHING.

I wish the IRS in America were like pension here. "Oh, we see good old Atavistic hasn't paid taxes in 20 years. Oh well!"

That's ridiculous. Go back to the local pension office and speak to someone with authority. The person at the counter obviously doesn't know what they're talking about.

You know, I would. But I'm sick of this country. I'm sick of these officials not knowing their elbow from their butts.

This boss has been taken to labor (by me) at least 6 times. She has tens of millions of wons worth of labor judgments against her. They did nothing. I went to court (as did my coworkers) and she has tens of millions of wons worth of court judgments against her. Still, nothing was done (the prosecutor claims he can't find her). I have complained to health, tax, pension. They don't want to do anything either.

I have 14 days left in the country and I'm going to spend those days with my boyfriend, with my friends, in Jejudo, drinking with my taekwondo master, and trying to line up a job back home.

I have always thought that employees should fight for themselves here. Well, frankly, I'm tired of Korea's bull. Score one point for her and Korea. Fine.
