I was looking into taking my cell phone back to Canada.
My parents who have done some globe trotting have said that, they can use their cell phone in the NEtherlands and in canada, as well as other african countries. They have said that you have to buy a card (is it LAN??), or something that slides into your cell phone to adapt to an international system.
and so:
Is it possible to bring my phone back home? Would any specific modifications need to be made?
I'm hoping someone with first hand experience can tell me about this.
thanks |

That's a SIM card. As far as I know, no korean phones have SIM cards. Some phones will roam but in a very limited amount of countries that have a CDMA system.
The other questions I don't know but there was a thread on this a few months ago.

If you have a new SK phone (011) you should have automatic roaming in the US and Canada through Verizon. I am not sure if KTF and LG have auto roaming yet. If you do not have auto roaming, you can pick up a phone at the airport and use your Korean phone number in North America. Check the English website of your phone company. |

Are cell phones now as popular in the USA as they are here? I never saw any in the usa. My only "experience" with them has been in Korea. |

they are popular, but it's not gotten to the extent where 11 yr olds have them.
usually a few 8th graders might have one, then in HS more kids get them, and at my university it seems like every other person has one.
the models are still behind the rest of the world.
camera phones and now gaining popularity and the price is slowly coming down. i'm now seeing the US versions of some of the samsung camera phones i saw this summer in korea.
but i think it also depends on where you are region wise... |
Thanks for responding. I have not been back to the usa for 5 years. Not sure what has happened without me. |
