For those who really know.....or have a good idea.

Are they ALL illegal, in some form?
Do all of these programs require the second bank account, third party
payment scenarios?

Are any of them legit?

Has anyone had a good experience with them?

Can anyone tell me about GMSC recruiting (yes, I know there is a search function but I'm looking for updated information).

OP, why play with fire? If you have a genuine diploma, then apply for a public school job. Don't take a chance of one of those crappy after-school jobs that always seem to end badly.

If you already have an E-2 visa sponsor and can work at one as a 2nd employer, it could be good(but don't expect to be considered an employee). I don't think I'd want to work at one as an only employer.

The pay is the same as a regular hagwon(but the hours are usally a little less). They may or may not say they will pay severance, probably won't pay pension, and will consider you as an Independent Contractor which means you are responsible for filing your own taxes which are I don't know how much you'll have to pay as opposed to a regular "employee."

I don't know how they continue to get away with it. I'm currently in court on the issue.

Our after school program is excellent value/quality for the money.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but regardless of the risk I'm interested in pursuing an after-school job in September. Can't argue that 5-6 classes of 15 students a day and no desk time is attractive.

Can anyone recommend a good agency? Please PM....

I would never do that job through an agency. The last AS teacher we had at my PS they fired in the 11 month on some trumped up non-reason. He was working through some sort of agency.

After school program here. Couldn't be happier. I signed a contract with the school. The school pays me. I went to the Pension office to see who was paying into my pension account, and sure enough, it was from the school. I looked at my pay stub and went to the bank to see who was paying me, and sure enough, it was the school.

I work 5 hours a day. That's it. I have five classes. The kids are kids but the job is so fn easy, someone with downs syndrome could do what I do.

The pay is great, not amazing, but in comparison to what everything else was, it's pretty good.

My housing is great. I like it a lot. I was able to find it myself. They pay the rent up to 400 per month, I pay 50 a month. They pay key money, 5 million.

With this schedule, I can do what I want. The contract doesn't say that I cant. Not that I condone such activities that fall outside of my jurisdiction.

There is NO second bank account here. If they ask me to open one, I will tell them no and that will be that, but they haven't done it yet.

I didn't find this job via the internet. Someone put me in touch with someone else. Are there better jobs out there, yeah, are there worse? Definitely. Am I happy where I am right now? Yes. It's so easy, again, someone with downs could do this.

I've actually been thinking about taking on an after-school position. What's so bad about doing it through an agency though? (Just the taxes, etc.?) And how could one get one through a school instead of an agency if that's the better route to go?
