I may be reading this wrong because I only skimmed the thread but what do they expect the candidates to live on for the first 2 months?
4 weeks of unpaid training, then 300k settlement allowance when you get to your school and I assume a full month of work before your first pay check.
Maybe things have changed but when I was a student no way could I have covered living costs for that amount of time |
Students are usually paying tuition and all other living expenses when they normally go to school, so I don't see your point. |
Yeah but in my day, I got a Grant (probably be a loan now) at the start of term which covered my accommodation and I worked to cover living expenses. The key thing was I got paid every week (or in 1 case every fortnight). These students are going to train for 4 weeks with no income, receive 300k and then work for a month before pay day. even iff all food is included for the first 4 weeks I think they'd need 50k - 100k a week, and once they get to the school they'll have to make the 300k stretch a full month?! I'm not sure I could do it.
I imagine they'd need at least 500k (and for some closer to 1m) to come with and I don't think I could have laid my hands on 250-500 out of the blue. |

If a student goes from having to pay
Tuition + Accommodation + Food
to
Food
He should have reduced his expenses and be better off. |

I have to agree about the money thing. As a student I received an allowance. The allowance should stop if you go overseas and are not a student at the uni.
I think it would be hard for some students to front up with at least 800k won for the two months of stay until any renumeration.
I actually got a private co. scholarship to come here in '97. It was thru uni and a Korean co. I had to pay my airfare etc, and I did a home stay at first until my dorm became available. Well, I loaned the airfare from a mate and I did get it paid to me by the company after about a week in Korea. But, I could only get about 75% of the cost of it - I was ripped off basically - there was a little thing about reversing the exchange and back again into K won meaning less funding - but not ripped off in that I actually got a scholarship which gave most of the promised funds.
My advice for anyone who wants it - Try not to have to pay your own airfare, and if you do, go the cheapest route. Question again if you are told to buy only a Korean Air flight. It shouldn't make any difference to your funding if you come by any other airline. |

Jesus you're right. That's shit. But, as 'Presidential Scholars' the glass will be half full, not half empty. And, 'It's not what Korea can do for you but what can YOU do for Korea' (suck it up). |

If the student is on student loans they can't get a loan unless they are registered for the next semester. |
