Any teachers with recent experience at Woosong University, Woosong Information College, Woosong Technical College and/or Woosong Language Institute in Daejeon?

From all that I've been able to read so far, they are improving all the time, but still have a way to go before they can be considered a "solid" choice. Is this correct or completely out to lunch?

Yes, from what I've heard they still have a long way to go. Overall the contractual conditions at Woosong University place it alongside Chungnam National University at the bottom of the rung for university jobs in Daejeon. However, I have heard that working conditions are better in certain departments. Of course this is all just hearsay. Its best to contact employees who actually work there for a more accurate description. PM me and I'm pretty sure I can put you in contact with someone there.

This would be most helpful. Thank you!

Sorry, I couldn't do the PM thing....I've only made 20 posts on this site and it requires that I do a minimum of 25 before it allows me to initiate a PM. As soon as I hit 25 (later today probably), I'll try PMing again.

Thanks again.

Details about Woosung University's jobs specs can be found here: http://esl-teaching-resources.blogspot.com/2008/05/list-of-korean-universities-w.html

Note, that this is for the LANGUAGE INSTITUTE and is located at the city hall (!!!), not even the university, so cautious of the liberal use of the name 'Woosung University'. The institute involves teaching kids and adults, and although the remuneration appears okay, there is no severance payable until the end of the second year.

I wonder what the deal is with that "end of the SECOND year" crap?! Korean law requires the severance pay after ONE year. Or at least that's the way the law was when I took the director of my first hagwon to the Labour Standards Office in Kangnam-gu. That was in 2002. Has the law changed since then???

Thanks for your feedback, by the way. Smile

Woosong, by all accounts, pays into a private pension fund and so they are not obliged to give you any severance (as they would if they paid into NPS). They give you a yearly "travel bonus"(?) that amounts to pretty much the same thing, though.

As are many Korean employers.

I'm just saying, the ads in China do seem to be showing higher salaries lately.

Try. But they are few and far between. Here's the thing abut China. I wanted to work there. WIth me having
7 years experience
MA in TEFL
4+ publications
Presented at natl conferences
Freelance for Macmaillian and Longman Pearson
Do oral exams with Cambridge

Most jobs paid nothing, think less than 6K yuan a month. Sure there ARE good jobs out there, but you usually have to have contacts or lots of luck to get htem.
