It says so on the back label. Check it out you Soju drinkers....

I like it. How about you?

Is it the best spirit in the world? Like the label says.

Personally. some Scotch and Irish whiskies take that title.

What's your favorite spirit?

In my opinion, any alcohol that can get me whacked for under W1,000 is gold. Very Happy

I would think more people drink Vodka worldwide. Considering the Russians drink it like water + it is in every other country I have been to.

Scotch and whiskey are another set that probably sells a lot more than Soju.

The thing soju has going for it, is it is so cheap. You can buy 20 bottles of soju for the same price as a bottle of good vodka.

If I were doing real comparisons, soju seems to be like beer. It is sold in small bottles, and people generally drink quite a few of those bottles Razz

My lips will never touch soju again...it is how I imagine urine to taste.

soju tastes nasty. i tried some the other day just for $hits and giggles, but it was just so rough.

And soju should never be drank straight. you gotta drink it with a ton of good tasting anju to kill the nasty flavor.

Drink it with cider...or Milkis...even 15% mix with 85% soju makes it far more palatable than straight. And as far as I'm concerned soju ruins the taste of every food you have with it, with the possible exception of ramyun.

I flipping love the stuff me, I think it goes really well with the flavour assault of a lot of korean food.

I wondered about that "number 1 spirit brand" thing too, but I guess it's because Jinro seems to have a massive market share, and people drink the stuff like it's water. If number 1 is based on the number of units (rather than volume) sold, I wouldn't be surprised if it was at the top.

it was semi-trendy here in the Bay Area for a bit. Not the straight stuff though; people went for the mixed variety (ie lemonade, other juices).

I actually the dirty way it makes you wince after you knock back a straight shot, but in Japan I drank soju, soda water and a slice of lime, which was a surprisingly refreshing drink.

I'm surprised you never mentioned "poteen" eamo. Mind you, that stuff never has labels on it anyway.

Yep. No labels on Poteen. I actually only drank it once. Very flavourless and odourless but it burns intensely when you swallow. Needless to say, you're biting carpet after less than half a bottle.

Jinro stings too much. If you're lucky enough to skip the national brand and try some regional brands, especially "White" from Gyeongsamnamdo (Busan's province), then you'll get the smoothest alcohol this side of Cayman rum. "White" is incredibly good with korean food, by my taste, but the national brand "Jinro" is too much like vodka, it bites.

Remember, all kinds of soju are not created equal.

Ice cold vodka gets a thumbs up from me as well. It just finishes so clean.

Soju just appeals on some basic animal element; the acid-like sensation of it washing away your insides, the loud clearing of your throat as it scours the mucous lining of your oesophagus, and the squint of your eyes as you try to keep them from falling out of their sockets... :)

Soju is just fun to drink. Don't talk about the morning after a few bottles though. I'm sure everyone can sympathise.. :)

jae.
