|
|
Perhaps someone with a bit more experience could offer some advice. I am currently looking to get a job in Chuncheon as this place seems to suit my profile. Enjoy the outdoors, dont want to be in a very big city but also dont wish to be to far from Seoul.
I am currently working through a recruiter who has gone out of their way to help me, I have a criminal record for a misdemeanor 20 years ago and they have jumped through hoops to get me in and have this overlooked by EPIK. The recruiter is an approved EPIK agent but they dont have anything on their books for Chuncheon at the moment yet I know that there are currently openings there.
Despite all the recruiter knocking on Dave's I feel a certain loyalty to the recruiter who has put so much effort into helping me get through the system. By the same token I do wish to land the job in my area of choice, any advice on my quandary would be most appreciated |

Trailrunner, If you had spent years saving up to buy a car and your heart was set on a BMW, and you went into the car dealership (regardless of how great/helpful he was) but he didn't have any BMWs would you still buy a car from him?
The fact is, this isn't a small thing, like a meal in a restaraunt (mmm...I really want steak, but i'll try the chicken) its a year of your life. Be upfront with your recruiter and tell him that you are ONLY considering an EPIK position in Chuncheon. In Korea, with enough motivation there always seems to be a solution to impossibilties with enough motivation. If your recruiter is still unable to find you a position in Chuncheon,, then you can reassess the situation; Looking at other places which fit the profile etc, though I'd recommend using a recruiter who can deliver what you are looking for
Your contact with the recruiter ends once you have signed the contract, and he gets paid very well for your signature. Him going out of his way to help you (prior to signing the contract...) is just as beneficial to him as it is to you...he's not doing you any special favours. In the end, changing recruiters will be forgotten LONG before spending a year in the wrong place. |

Thanks Otherside that sounds like balanced and practical advice. Your BMW analogy is great. I will certainly push my recruiter to make a plan to get me the position I want in Chuncheon and if they cant then I will find a recruiter who can.
You seem to know the ropes here and I am a newbie, so I pose another question, how do I find recruiters who have positions specific to my particular situatione i.e EPIK job in Chuncheon? any advice here appreciated. |

Thanks for the PM Otherside I will certainly heed your advice. It is amazing that for all the negatives that come with watching Dave's it can be such a useful tool for the ignorant like myself. You have certainly given me a few things to concider. By the way, what do you mean even if I am from Cape Town? |
