Good question. As for America being boring, sounds like a broad generalization that needs to be slightly narrowed down. Maybe to "America is boring if you only like to get plastered, eat at expensive restaurants and go to the 노래방" or something like that. (Granted that is the most important thing in the world to alot of Korean college aged students)

I think I liked it better when my wife was in the states. There is alot, and I mean alot less social pressure on people. Like its okay to live in a house thats 10 years old in the states. Its also okay to buy a car thats 5 years old. You dont have to keep up with the Kims so much (instead you keep up with the Jones and they for some reason seem to be more reasonable about spending habits)... or you can just not worry about the Jones because they live a block a way and you have your own house with a yard.

We are planning on moving back to the states beginning of next year. The thing i'm looking forward to most? Spending time with my family. Talked about this in another thread but I work for a Korean company and the hours suck. When ever I talk to people back home (Washington state) I get "your crazy" or "they must be paying you bank" (neither). I mean eating dinner at 9 pm and seeing the kid for an hour until she sleeps really isn't how I want to spend the rest of my life, or the rest of the year.

Things might be a little tighter because she doesn't work in the US, yet.

Oh yeah and for all of Koreas four seasons, I still think Washington has better seasons. Well if you can classify 'rainy' and 'non-rainy' as seasons but still we have green stuff, like grass, and trees, all year long. Oh and the air is clean ^^.

There is also a pretty good Korean community in Federal way/Auburn area so we can get the Korean stuff we need. No worries.

Okay so I'm a little worried about going back but overall I think its going to be an upgrade in family life, and hopefully in overall happiness.

I won't understand why a Korean person would think America is boring. Both countries have exactly the same recreational activities. Every town, no matter how small, is going to have a bar, same as Korea. And if your spouse is into something other than drinking... she's not Korean Maybe America just looks more mellow because the bar doesn't have a twenty foot sign out front or cars with inflatable advertisements roaming the neighborhood at 2 am.

Pretty good input. All of the Koreans I know who have lived and worked outside of Korea say that they either won't or can't go back. The 'Korean Grind' and pace of life is just not worth it, they usually remark.

Korean corporate jobs are for the birds. Glad you're getting out of that rat race.

And with the Korean community where you're going back to, you'll have the best of both worlds. Even if it's only once in a while that your wife wants to touch base with Korean culture (or the rendition of it in the US), it's nice to have it there.

A taiwanese girl told me America (Seattle) was boring. She said cause you can't go eat out every meal and cause everyone just stays at home (like likes to be with their family at night). . .

Consensus I get from Koreans is that New York is the best. A Korean girl told me Philadelphia was way too boring. I'm like, "Honey, that's about as exciting as it gets in these."

I took my wife and kids back home in 2002. I bought a huge house 5 minutes from a brand new public school with excellent teachers, a few Korean kids and gave my wife a fully loaded Kia Sedona (Carnival).

To save money I rented a trench digger at Home Depot and laid the sprinkler system myself, then I borrowed a truck and hauled in sod and gravel. Carried it all thru the gate and my wife saw me working until sundown everyday after work and on weekends.

I was repayed by non-stop whining.

"There's nothing to do, I'm going home"
"Goddammit why is this country so big, pull the car over, my ass hurts"
"Your relatives are 촌스러워" (hicks)

This may or may not be an isolated case, but beware.

Life in Asia is so very different. When I was in China, I couldn't stand to see so many damned people outside on the street either eating, shaving, drinking, sitting around, smoking...doing just about everything all jammed up together. No privacy, little space, very loud and always something for the senses.

Maybe people can get used to that, and silence, large spaces and very few people can be 'boring' or at least unnerving.

I resorted to staying indoors and just watching chinese tv for about a week! And I was on vacation travelling around

from all of my experience in living overseas and interacting with the women in said countries, I'd say if you bring one back to the US you are a COMPLETE FOOL.

for all the reasons listed thus far and many many many others.

Figure out a way to make a living in her country and stay there. You'll be much much happier. I guarantee it.

and she won't blow up on you (as in gain 100 lbs)
