According to Forbes Magazine, South Koreans are considered the hardest working people in the world...... Confused

Seriously.....thats what I miss about working in Korea- that I was able to get as much I put into my job.......the more I worked and the harder I worked, the better the rewards I got for my hard work..........

It is not to say that such rewards were given equally but it gave me a strong work ethic......

What is your take on this?

Forbes needs to learn the difference between "longest" and "hardest." As has previously been shown, while Koreans work a ton, they get shit done while they're there. Almost by definition that means they're NOT the hardest working people in the world.

I'm of the opinion many Korean men make work an excuse to avoid spending time with their families.

YES!

My coworker does this, and I know for a fact that he's in his office doing squat much of the time. He says, "I work until 12, have an hour drive home, and come back to work at 9am. My family hates me."

If by hard work you mean sitting around the office, smoking skinny cigarettes, drinking instant coffee, planning the night's soju binge and playing solitaire until the boss man leaves, then yes.

This dicussion has been done before. Forbes is only the latest to claim this. It is a misconceived notion to equate working longer to working harder. Yes, Koreans work long hours (the longer part). What does that prove? Not a damn thing when it comes to their actual productivity rating (the harder part). Others already mentioned this.

Forget about office workers, police, and shopkeepers, who are all slackers.

The average Korean factory worker does in fact work a lot. Weekly shift is around 45 hours and on top of that there could be overtime.

If you've ever done factory work it's damm hard.

Once again, people are basing their knowledge on Korea on what they see in an English Hagwon.
