I know there are lots of ferries from Busan to Fukouka, which are heavily utilized by people on visa-runs but what about flying?
I live in Chungcheongbuk-Do, so I'm hours away from Busan. I'd rather go to Incheon or Gimpo and fly (I don't think it is possible from Cheongju airport - not directly anyway)...
The big problem is ticket prices. All tickets seem to start at close to 400,000 won and go much higher. Some of the websites proudly advertise tickets for about 250,000 - 300,000 won, which grab your attention until you realise they haven't included the tax...
The prices seem very steep, considering I can fly from England to France/Holland and a few other destinations that are more or less equivalent to Korea to Japan for about 100,000 won return if I shop around.
Are there any cheap flights out there? Are there any realistic alternatives to Korean Air and Asiana? I'm thinking generally, but would be most likely to fly in September. I am only interested in direct flights.
All information will be welcome,
Thanks. |

For cheaper flights you can try JAL or ANA
BUT
With the price of oil going over $135 per barrel I wouldn't be expecting flight prices to drop any time soon. In a lot of cases, the ticket prices, even on the discount carriers, are as much as double what they were a couple short years ago.
In a lot of cases, the "fuel surcharge" is as much as the ticket price and it won't be going down in the near future.

You are closer to Busan than I, although you might have a better
bus schedule.
Where I'm at I can take an overnight bus to Busan and catch a morning
hydrofoil.
If I were to fly I would have to go to Seoul the night before and then stay the night in a hotel and probably get there later or about the same time.
If you are flying then you could fly almost anywhere to get your visa.
What's the cost for a ticket to Tokyo? |

don't compare prices offlights back home to here cos they are not going to match up, not even in the long term. There is no budget airline and the one that is supposed to be set up soon (in a year or so) is owned by korean air so i doubt the prices will be much different anyway!!
take the boat, it's only a 3 hour trip and it's more comfortable than flying. also the boat terminal is only a 10 minute bus ride into the center of fukuoka!! |
