Tally up the "yes" answers and enter your tally under the poll question:

1. Do you avoid stores where the clerks speak to you in English?
2. Do you use the automatic teller without pressing the rectangle which says "English"?
3. When kids say "hello" to you on the street, do you answer with annyeong?"
(One extra point if you can say "annyeong" on E-A instead of G-E.)
4. Do you write your grocery shopping list in Korean?
5. Have niun's stopped looking like L's to you?
6. Do you call the Korean president "No" instead of "Ro"?
7. Do you watch Hollywood movies in order to study the subtitles?
8. Have you studied a third language, using only textbooks and dictionaries written for Koreans?
(One extra point each for Braille or sign language.)
9. Has your students' English started sounding right to you?
10. Have you found yourself speaking Korean in the English classroom without realizing it?
11. Can you type in Korean without looking at the keys?
12. Do you have a local library card?
13. Would you rather approach another subway passenger by saying, "Towajuseyo" than to have another subway passenger approach you by saying, "Can I help you?"
14. Do you listen to Korean songs?
15. Do you sing along?
16. Have you ever told a student "Ddongchimhaji ma"?
17. Can you write messages in Korean without being bothered by the audience which you are attracting?
18. Do you feel guilty logging onto this message board, since it is written in English?
19. Do you look up names in a Korean phone book without patting yourself on the back?
20. Have you dated a person who doesn't speak English?
(20 points if you married a person who doesn't speak English.)

I think that you need to lower the bonus points from number 20. That put me well in the geek range (I am guessing since you didn't give a way to score ourselves). Without it I'm not all that geeky.

I got a 29 too. I just didn't have the option to vote.

I wish I was a real geek with the language. I scored 12 on your list, thinking that the number would be lower.

Well, he can do: I love you, hello, good job, yes and no, most of his numbers, the alphabet...and his base vocabulary for random words isn't bad...but he still doesn't know that you add s when there's more than one dog, or for that matter that there's such a thing as different verb tenses. I try not to confuse him. Korean is easier.

Yea, number 20 is really important to me. My first K girl, spoke only English. I had to break up with her, and she did all these annoying things like hang around my house, call me drunk...but I felt great.

My next girl thing, though not as beautiful, spoke only Korean to me. Although I struggled, it felt like a more fullfilling relationship.

Now that I have your grades, here is the curve:

23-above: very geeky
17-22: geeky
6-16: average
0-5: un-geeky

I agree, Corporal, this test is hardly worth a write-up in a journal.
I wrote it mostly for fun, anyway.
I recognize these limitations:

Sad There was a biased sample.

The title of this topic is no doubt unappealing to people who don't even aspire to be Korean language geeks. And that seems to be most foreigners in Korea.

Sad The mathematical calculation wasn't so wonderful.

The limited number of options allowed on the message board hampered me considerably.
I counted the votes as even numbers and regarded 20 as the ceiling.
I realize that Corporal hit that ceiling.
That was the best I could do.
For what it is worth, the average was 11 and the standard deviation was 6.[/b]

Six years plus.

Hey the questions were loaded.

A lot of "do you" not "can you".

I can, I just don't.
