Wie looks average at best imo. Gong Li was good back in her hey day before she really became known in the west, but is well past her prime now. And Lucy Liu is very ordinary imo, I think she has the Chinese look that a lot of westerners like but she doesn't do a great deal for me, not bad but I see better looking Chinese women pretty much every day.

I wouldn't complain if I looked half as good as Gong Li when I become her age!!!!

Weight AGAIN?

I've seen many a chubby 25 go home with a balding beer belly at the end of the night back in the day...enjoy your youth with you ice cream I guess.

My girlfriend and I saw Michelle Wie at a restaurant in London a couple years ago. She may not be a great golfer, but she is a top-notch snob! I can't believe how conceited she was (I can imagine that being famous as a teenager can boost your ego to dangerously high levels, but still...). It seems like she inherited her father's arrogance. As for her looks, well...maybe slightly above average for a Korean, but you have to remember she's about 6 feet tall (in addition to the aforementioned snootiness)! But if that's your thing, have at her.

None of my Chinese friends from college found Lucy Liu attractive, and frankly neither do I.

Keep in mind that when you have perfect strangers coming up to you all the time usually wanting something off you, it's bound to make you short. I wouldn't consider myself a snob, but I put my best Korean* face on when ajosshi tries to get his free Englishee lesson on the subway.

*You how Koreans pointedly ignore people asking for money? I've been perfecting this look.

I'd take Liu over Gong Li anyday. Liu has more exotic appeal IMO. Of course I'm not Chinese.

It's somewhat consistent, but many features are left to societal standards of beauty.

That's what OP is missing. A shape (hip-to-waist ratio, for example) may be preferred. A symmetrical face may be preferred. Certain features (height, etc) may be wanted.

But when you actually stick these things on a PERSON instead of on a silhouette, instead of on a computer composited image to study, etc, when you actually put these people IN a culture and society, there's a lot more at play.

But THAT doesn't fit into OP's rigid little world view.

who said this was my "rigid world view"?

who said my world views were rigid.. they're anything but.

I was talking about a simple sample re physical appearance.. nothing more and nothing less.

it's OBVIOUS that in real life nothing is so clear cut and many more factors come into play.. also depending on the situation!

for e.g. these biological anthropologists have proven women seek out slightly different physical characteristic when looking for husbands/providers - a slightly more round faced man is preferred rather than angular masculine look because this time around a woman isn't looking for a fuckmate.. but looking for something else... or more.

ditto for males. Qualities sought in a female vary depending on circumstances. What's sought for a lover is different than what is sought for wife/mother. If it's a fling, you place less importance on how annoying her voice is. etc if it's a girlfriend.. the thought of listening to that on a regular basis, makes you prefer jumping off a bridge or seeking a female you'd otherwise consider less physically attractive.

and with all that come INDIVIDUAL preferences on what qualities appeal (or disqualify) certain people to others.

and then there are "tradeoffs", always tradeoffs, eh?

but sometimes a simple question such as the one I posed to my class, with the overwhelming response can also be educational.

If life were very simple, then for e.g. men's choices would be reduced to THIS (and probably still are for many hahahaha)

Michelle Wie looks like any other spoiled Korean girl. Kids at your school are right, she's nothing to gander at.

Michelle guest-starred on a Korean variety show a couple years back. They had a golf game activity with her and other Korean celebrities. She did horribly, she couldn't even aim correctly to save her life!

Wait, what? I would. I think every healthy man would. I don't see how grading on a curve is acceptable when it comes to celebs.

1. Corny but true - beauty/sexy/hot is in the eye of the beholder.

2. I'm not surprised that Koreans don't like Wie, the Chinese don't like Liu. When I lived in Russia every Russian man I knew thought Anna Kournikova was just average. Perhaps it's a western quirk in that we like what the locals don't like.
