But by almost any measure, gasoline is still cheap. In fact, it has probably been far too cheap for far too long. The recent price increases are only beginning to reflect its real value.

Gasoline is also cheap compared with other essential fuels. A Starbucks venti latte costs the equivalent of $23 per gallon, while Budweiser beer runs $11 per gallon.

Pretty standard slate "cute economic factoid" article, but still pretty interesting. |

It would have been more accurate if it had at least mentioned the indirect costs of oil absorbed by U.S. policies. Each man, woman, and child owes $1,790 for the Iraq War. |

Yeah, a lot of slate is "what an interesting/quirky/counterintuitive fact" articles without much context. Good for cocktail chatter, I guess. |

Well, excluding the indirect costs, the article's premise would be dead on. $4 gallon is not a lot of money! $4 gallon + $1,500 over five years for every member of the family is. |

Doesn't Emily Bazalon have the most obnoxious voice? I have to turn down my mp3 player when she is talking. |

There was a time that bottled water cost more than gasoline. (No more) |

Yeah Bazelon gets on the ol' nerves. So does Plotz actually. But I heart John Dickerson. |

Same, same, same.
Have you listened to the culture gabfest? Last weeks was the most smug ever contained in mp3 format. |
