I just moved to my new apartment in Yeongtong, Suwon.

This apartment has been vacant for god knows how long, when I first got the job about two months ago I came to have a gander and it looked as if no one has lived here for awhile. Anyway, I moved in yesterday and found an old cable modem laying around, so I set it up and I have fully functional internet (relatively fast, too).

The company is "Korea Cable Television and Suwon Broadcasting". Does anyone know if this is free internet, included in the property? This building can't be more than five years old. Or is this just the leftovers of the last tenant whom forgot to cancel?

Thanks.

left overs from someone who didn't cancel.

be careful you don't get stuck with the old bill too.

they may insist that it be paid when they disconnect your tv even though it is not yours.

If I were you I'd have them come and disconnect it. Also, tell your boss about it and be sure he understands you're not paying for it. Better to do that and then get a different/better ISP.

Lesson learned here from a similar situation:

I had cable TV and internet at my first apartment. The boss had set it up for me with my credit card. It was set to automatically withdraw. When I left, my boss said he'd cancel it. My dad was watching my credit card bill back home, which had almost no charges each month except that internet/cable bill. I never thought to mention to him that I had canceled the cable, and he never felt the need to mention to me that I was still being charged. I'm from a small town with one cable company, and he figured I just changed my address and kept the same company in Seoul. Wrong.

Either the boss hadn't canceled my account as he said he would, or the cable company just kept taking money out. My boss claims he canceled it.

I didn't notice the mistake until over 6 months later. I was out over $160, and the cable company didn't care. The new teacher who had moved in just enjoyed the free cable TV.

Since that time, I've noted on no less than 2 other occasions that the cable TV company CONTINUED to bill me even after cancellation. It took me 2 calls one time, and on one occasion with SKY, they STILL kept deducting from my account, despite claiming time and time again that they had canceled it. After that, I canceled the bank account so they couldn't do it anymore.
