| She HAS put on quite a bit of weight, indeed. She was so skinny back then, if I remember. It's quite shocking change. Nothing alarming, but she definitely puffed up. I never liked her singing. |
she was arguably too skinny in her Jagged Pill days. (and needed to bathe more frequently hahaha)
but rounded out nicely later. I thought she looked quite good here (especially with her haircut)

the great thing about Alanis is she always had a wicked set of humor
http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=ReOrctQoDAk
and as recently as last year she still looked perfectly fine, (this spoof is hilarious) clearly much slimmer than her recent Today appearance.. I'm guessing the breakup with her fiance (I don't know the story) probably caused her to eat nothing but Haagen Daz and cookies for a year straight.

She used to have a fit and trim yoga/runners body. Now as they say: junk be in da trunk!
I guess she can afford to eat everything she wants. Alanis, get thee to a gym. |

I like junk in the trunk.. but of THIS variety (first girl has a bit too much but the others yeah baby)
(in fact it's the ONE thing I desperately miss here in Korea)
http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=bd-0j9wDpaA
re Alanis.. well it's her ass and she can do what she wants with it.. including blowing it up.
BUT..
since she's working on a new album and obviously trying to get out and re-promote herself by appearing on shows like Today. etc
it would seem to me, it's not good PR to return to the spotlight 20 lbs plus heavier. the new highlighted streaky hairdo isn't going to hide the poundage.
that may not be fair.. but life has rarely been fair and especially so as a "celebrity".
of course, if she wants to quietly retire as a potato sack housewife somewhere (problem is it's hard to find a mate once you've already become a potato sack) that's up to her. |

Gents!
Wait six months or so and see whether she's still carrying that around. She just looks pregnant to me. She's carrying most of her extra fat in front, while her ass is still quite well-defined. Of course, this is just a rumour, but a pretty well-circulated one. |

For someone who doesn't care about anyone's else weight, you sure do harp on it a lot. Sort of like the God Hates Fags people. What, exactly, scares you?
As for the waist size thing... Google "Dr Oz waistline 35." |
I should have shot this down immediately. so ONE doctor goes on Oprah (figures, perfect place) and gives this theory of 35 inches for men waistline and 32 inches for women
of course, all the (fat) women and the fat husbands that got dragged to the show sit there and clap like seals in fervent approval.
the problem is we know men tend to deposit fat in their stomachs and women tend to deposit it in their thighs/ass (at least to begin with, once you get super fat there is no escape anywhere)
so... it's like the perfect thing to say to women...
no.. you're not medically fat.. not at all.
yet 32 inches is like let's see... EIGHT inches bigger than the so called 36-24-36 "ideal", while the male ideal is merely one inch bigger than a 34 waist pantsize with which most men of decent height would never appear fat/have a belly in.
what a joke.
I'm not saying any/every woman should be 36-24-36, there's plenty of room for variation.. but not eight inches on your belly!
p.s. if Alanis is pregnant, I take everything I said back!
this is pretty good
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_attractiveness
Waist-hip ratio
Main article: waist-hip ratio
Notwithstanding wide cultural differences in preferences for female build, scientists have discovered that the waist-hip ratio (WHR) of any build is very strongly correlated to attractiveness across all cultures.[29] Women with a 0.7 WHR (waist circumference that is 70% of the hip circumference) are usually rated as more attractive by men from European cultures. Such diverse beauty icons as Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, and the Venus de Milo all have ratios around 0.7.[31] In other cultures, preferences vary,[32] ranging from 0.6 in China,[33] to 0.8 or 0.9 in parts of South America and Africa,[34][35][36] and divergent preferences based on ethnicity, rather than nationality, have also been noted.[37
so... what size hip do you have to have if your waist size is 32?
around 45??
hahahahahahahhaa

Wow. I love you.
And yeah, I can't stand her either.
I always thought she was aping Sinead O'Connor. Sinead's first couple records, while appreciated by critics, were too weird and in-your-face to sell well. Then -- as is always the case with art -- 10 years later a watered-down version of something similar comes along: Alanis with her pretentious music. Just edgy enough to make suburban douchebags think they're hip but not too edgy and, hey, you can, like, dance to it.
To make matters worse she's a vegetarian, incense-burning, meditating to the great golden Buddha hippy. What's next? Scientology? |

Mandinka was a great O Connor song.. especially the club remix.
the others.. not so hot. Nothing Compares to you was ok, but it's a Prince song, so he gets credit.
I never quite an image of an OConnor/Alanis link but there are plenty of possibilities in the eye of the individual beholder. |

Why does everyone forget she is nothing more than a product of the music industry?
Before she had a last name:

They simply re-packaged her a few years later and everyone bought it. |

she's hardly alone in this regard. I think she wrote more of her own stuff after Jagged Little Pill and I like Thank you for e.g. |

I guess you're right, I had no point other than I dislike Alanis' music and the music industry. That and "Too Hot" is pretty funny considering what she became/was manufactured as. |

ever notice how few pop acts ever write their music.. (so I share some of your disdain) and how when it comes to rock bands... they usually release their best stuff with the first two albums and then it's all downhill? think of Pearl Jam.. they're still around but their best stuff was first 2 albums, then crap.
I wonder why that is.
and Hank, I do.. I do.. I just don't understand people that don't I guess. |

I'm always curious what that means though... "serious interest in music"
in some ways sounds like a certain intellectually snobbery that cannot be precisely defined.
I mean.. when I was a kid I was forced to play piano for many years.. and I have a pretty good musical background.
but in the end.. a lot of things wind up being subject to individual taste(s)
there was a band in Chicago for many years.. that the critics couldn't rave enough about.. I think even Rolling Stone was raving about them.
yet they never had a single hit.. and when I heard them on local radio, I thought they sucked. (there was nothing catchy or interesting or memorable about it for me)
all the critical praise.. yet they never went anywhere..
then there are the horrors like boyband.. and worse yet.. the Spice Girls which could "manufacture" hits.
it all just makes little sense to me.
then there is Cuban timba.. which from a musical perspective is salsa made far more interesting and complex.. yet to the ear.. at least to my ear... not as attractive to listen to as salsa..
i think music is very hard to define and is one of those things that is supremely subjective. |
