The clear question is whether you think this movie is better thyan the classic series.

Well?

It's highly unlikely this will be one of the better Indiana Jones films. Why? Because a Judeo Christian artifact doesn't figure in the story. Spielberg and company are at their best when searching for some long lost western religious item, and at their worst when they aren't(see Temple of Doom).

Also, so far the reviews are pretty mixed. That says a lot about the quality- some fans are likely to be disappointed, yet some will be entertained.

Finally(I almost forgot), casting Shia Lebeouf was a big mistake. He's a decent actor, but I can't see him in an Indy film. Spielberg is too concerned with making money and appealing to younger audiences, and not enough with putting out top product.

Comparing film and television media is a dicey affair, NM.

Anyhow, I think you can guess where I stand on this non-issue.

And how about moving it to where it belongs--in Off Topic for those OPs who are off their rocker?

It's a generational thing, maybe. If you have to ask, you didn't live it, as in watching the series in prime time rather than re-runs or syndication.

Nowadays, it is necessary for the short-attention viewer to see lots of actions, lots of gore or sex.

Five-0 followed a formula that worked very well and the story always mattered more than the action.

You have to accept that before you can begin to appreciate it.

And for those of us who still dreamed of visiting Hawaii, having on-location filming (the first TV series to do it, I might add) only added to the local color. In the '70's, Hawaii was still the destination of choice for many honeymooners and those on their second honeymoon. It was also less built-up then.

Another thing: Jack Lord truly loved the islands and most islanders loved him even though he came from New York. That comes through in his character. Interestingly enough, in some important respects, McGarrett's life mirrored that of Lord's.

Can't sneeze at 12 years of prime-time television and international syndication, either.
