Hi All!

I'll be in Seoul in late August to mid-September for a total of 16 nights. Can anyone recommend me a good place to stay? My budget is 60,000 won per night. Mainly I just want a clean, private room where I don't have to share a washroom or anything, so probably a motel. It has to be in the Gangnam area because that's where all my friends live.

Any recommendations? I've never been to Seoul so I have no idea.

Thanks everyone!

Why not just crash out with your friends if that's where they all are...

60K for gangnam is a bit of a joke, to be honest.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I've heard it's an expensive area, but I don't need anything fancy so I was hoping to find something in that price range. I literally just need a clean place to sleep and keep my clothes, with my own washroom/shower. Would it be cheaper to try and find a short-term condo or something to rent for a month and just leave early?

What would be a reasonable budget?

My friends have offered to let me stay with them but I'd rather not intrude. They all work normal hours, whereas I'll more or less be partying every night. So they would have to put up with me stumbling back drunk in the middle of the night. I don't want to do that to them.

You can probably find a love hotel for that, but very few of them advertise in English. If you can crash with a friend for the first couple of nights, it'll give you a chance to walk around and suss out the local love hotels. They're easy to spot and not as sleazy as they sound (not that I have any first-hand knowledge of them, of course). Smile

I agree with the poster above. Spend a night or two at a friend's first.. then find a motel nearby and NEGOTIATE with them. Since you'll be staying for over 2 weeks, they will give you a discount, probably.

I've been doing a little research... what about Goshiwons? Are there any good ones in Gangnam from anyone's experience?

If you contact a travel agent who can book a room at Stay 7, they're reasonable. The last time I came to Seoul, we paid 45k or 50k Won. Their rooms also have cooking facilities, which would be a big plus if you're staying for a couple of weeks. The call-in and counter rates are quite expensive, but travel agents get a different rate. I think there's a Stay 7 between GyoDae and Gangnam stations on Line 2.

Saty with a friend 1-2 nights and look in the area... Korea has great motels that are cheap... even in Gangnam... maybe about 50000/ night with a big tub, largescreen TV, computer, etc...

Where in Gangnam....it's a big area... what subway station?

A goshiwon is a closet, literally, with no furniture and just floor space. THey are mainly for students who need a place to sleep/study without any distractions.
