So I got a package from my dad today. And I was all like, "Hurray!" See my dad sends a package every month. The package is always filled with goodies, baby clothes and COFFEE! Mmmm coffee! Today's package was small and the declaration form said, "Two bags coffee."

The package had been opened and the tape said, "Opened by Customs."

That's okay with me. I understand that the whole point of Customs is to inspect packages. I understand that drugs are often shipped in coffee, so it makes sense that they would search this package.

I have no problem with them searching the package.

My problem is that they DIDN'T FREAKING CLOSE THE COFFEE BAGS BACK UP! Both bags had the little wire closey things...BUT THEY LEFT BOTH BAGS OPEN!!!!!!!! So when I opened the package loose coffee went flying EVERYWHERE!!! The coffee was all on the inside of the box, on my shirt, on my table, on my floor! And now that it's all rolled around the inside of a cardboard box that my dad got from who knows where I don't even know if I should drink it.

So now I'm peeved, bummed and without coffee. Sad

That sucks. Yokels had probably never dealt with real coffee before. Why would you when you have the wonders of "Maxim"?

You can get it in every decent coffee shop or supermarket.

at least they didn't take your coffee because they couldn't figure out how to close the bags again....

My sister decided to send me a surprise package containing groun coffee from our favorite local coffee store, jordan almonds and my nephew's 1 year birthday card. It's been two weeks. Assuming it's held up in customs, what's the likelihood I'll actually get the coffee and candy? They're not in commercially sealed bags, the almonds come in a small plastic bag with a twist-tie and the coffee comes in brown bags closed with paper/tape (it sticks, but also rips open easily). If they confiscate them, would they bother sending me the box with just the card so I at least know what happened? If those bastards eat my almonds...I hope they crack their teeth.

Customs searches coffee, because drugs are often hidden in coffee in an attempt to fool drug-sniffing dogs.

I've had one of those large envelopes opened and inspected (which was fine, because it contained vitamins). But the ignorant peasants at the post office didn't even bother to re-seal the envelope. When I got it in my mailbox it was still (completely) unsealed and the accompanying letter was gone. I was furious. In developed countries that kind of 'tampering' with the mail is a federal offence. I worked at the post office in Canada, and it would be taken as a serious matter if you fukked with someone's mail like that.

Korea. You're still third world in sooooo many ways! (Sorry, but it's true.)

Have whoever is sending the coffee, put it in clear sealed bags. HAve them put it into a ziplock bag so customs can shake the bag without opening it to see that there are no drugs in it.
