I'm looking to buy a new set of earphones. I have a pair of Sony (don't know the model #) "in-ear buds" "that have lasted well for a couple of years, but time has had her fickle way with them and I'm looking for replacements. I'm kind of tired of the tangling, so I'll consider an "on-ear" style, but nothing bulky.

What do you use, what do you like? Budget is important, I'm not looking for noise-canceling technology from Bose or Sennheiser, thanks. I'll spend upwards of 70~80K for a good, long-lasting set that delivers good sound and comfort.

I use icemat Siberias.

The sound is excellent but might be hard to find in Korea, might not be what you're looking for. Either way, that's what I use.

Anyone know a place in Yongsan (or anywhere, I suppose) that specialises in up-market headphones?

I'm in the market for some good in-ear phones for my MP3 player (budget.....100,000) as well as a big set of closed headphones for my desktop (budget.....200,000).

I've checked out head-fi.org and have chosen a few models but it seems all the Yongsan stores sell crap.

I've seen people wear big DJ type headphones walking on the street. But why buy two headphones, one for home and another for walking? Whatever works.

Check out the headphone shop in Yongsan - maybe 5th floor of the electronics market attached to the station.

They have AKG, Senns, grados, and quite a few other good brands.

I have pair of V-moda Vibes IEMs, clean, very balanced Highs and Lows. They're about $101 at http://shop.v-moda.com/ and $5 flat shipping outside of the US. I think you can buy them from a headphone shop in the Sinchon subway station for a lot less and of course free shipping if you go there.

If you can increase your budget I would recommend the Swedish made q-Jays but they sell for about $230. I haven't bought from these guys but I may order my q-Jays from them. http://www.earphoneshop.co.kr/ or http://www.headphoneshop.co.kr/

This shop is in Japan but they will ship promptly to Korea and they accept USD and via payment from Paypal http://www.audiocubes.com/ I bought my Audio Technica ATH-CK7 from them. 1st class customer service and they speak and write English very well.

For in-ear, I've tried Shure, Epitonic, and Sennheiser.

Out of the three, Shure was easily the best soundwise. I had the $100-range pair.

For construction, Sennheiser.

The Epitonics broke after about 3 months. One bud stopped working. Confused

I think there's a place that sells Shure somewhere north of the river. A market that specializes in musical instruments or some such, but that's all I can remember (a friend went there and picked mine up while he was getting his).

This is where I bought my Sennheiser headphones. Their prices are better than what you see on line.
