|
|
I would like to give Korea a shot. I would like to commit to only 6 months (Late June to late December...or Jan 1st).
I want to be in the South, and probably will end up in/near Busan.
What are the chances of getting a 6 month job, with an option to extend to 12 months, and no hard feelings if said contract is not extended?
Tell me your feelings on what kind of salary would be available, what you think my chances would be on getting the regular deal (free housing 1 way air ticket, etc...).
Is 2.5 to 2.8 mill., a month, too much to expect outside of Seoul?
Thank you for your time and willingness to share info.

2.5/2,8 a month is most likely too much to expect, full stop. Unless you have any experience/qualifications which make you stand out a bit.
Six month contracts are tough to get. I tried pretty hard to get one a while back...and there was no interest. I do see a few 6 month posts offered from time to time, but usually they are less than ideal positions. |

My missus is currently nearing completion of a 6-month contract. However, she negotiated this after she'd already completed a year. A 6-month contract straight off the boat will probably be tricker to negotiate, but I'm sure if you made your own way out here and contacted some Hagwons in person, then you may be able to negotiate something. |

I worked with a few teacher's at GnB in my first year who were on 6 month contracts...grad students looking to pay some bills before the next semester. However, it's not the best gig in town. |

I know someone here on a 6 month contract, in a city about an hour from Busan, but its at a small hogwan who were desperate. He got one way airfare paid. I wouldn't hold out for any kind of return airfare or bonus and would expect your salary to be closer to 2.0 |

Not in Korea
Expecting 2.5-2.8 mil
asking for the usual benefits?
No mention of any qualifications above the required BA.
Kind of reminds me of the snowball in hades.

Make it September through February instead and you can easily get one of plenty of 6-month public school gigs in smaller places, qualifying for the rural allowance and maybe even transportation allowance that pushes your salary into the 2.3-2.4 range.
Otherwise... there ARE 2.5 mill hagwon jobs being advertised, even here on Dave's I've seen a few in recent months in smaller cities, none looking for experience of CELTA or anything more thna a degree and criminal record check and medical.
Get all your paperwork ready, including CRC in your hand, and you could easily negotiate something. The need is that great. But I doubt if anything over 2.5 is likely, given what I've seen. But hey, there are always exceptions you hear about.
Good luck whatever. |

I'm doing a 6 month contract in Cheongju after my year is up here in Seoul. ( only got 2 more months to go). They will do it, since you are already here, but of course you won't get flight money and you won't get a severance payout. Also they WILL give you a one way ticket home and help you pay for a Japan visa run.
Good luck finding the 2.8 and only 6 months though. |
