After giving up the ciggies and now the coffee , it's time for me to invest in some pearly white teeth.
So what are your options in Korea ?
Where is best to go ?
What prices should one expect ? What results could one expect ?
Are these "strip" things a viable option ?
Any advice would be appreciated ? |

You could try the Clarins whitening strips. I really like them. But I wouldn't use any whitening stuff too much. It's bad for your enamel. If you like coffee or tea, sip it with a straw or drink it straight on back and don't let it linger on your teeth for long. |

I paid 500,000 for teeth whitening which happened over two sessions. I have hypersensitive teeth, so it hurt like hell. I was literally doubling over in pain, because the nerves in my teeth are too close to the outer layer. They use a hydrogen peroxide based paste. It takes twenty minutes each session. My teeth are much whiter than they were. Noticeably so. I am satisfied. |

For 70,000 won you can buy the whitening strips. They work fine and after two weeks your teeth are probably going to be as white as can be. |

500 k seems a bit steep. Are there not cheaper dental treatments available ?
Are the strips unpleasant/painful to use ? Where can you buy them ? |

You can buy them at LotteMart and I think HomePlus has them. If you have a co-teacher that speaks English well enough, have him/her write it out in Korean and show it to the staff in the beauty products section. |

The whitening strips cannot get your teeth as white as going to the dentist. I got my teeth whitened back in 2001 for around 400,000 won. It took several weekly trips to the dentist but what I had to do was to put plastic containers in my teeth with solution.
The strips are good if you want to look good for an event or something, but cannot compare to dentist whitening. |

I was wondering about this too because I've also quit cigs and coffee.
Is the whitening procedure offered by most dentists? Can anyone make a recommendation? These prices are with insurance?!? |

I enquired about teeth whitening to WY dentist:
http://www.wydent.com/index.html
And got this reply:
Dear Snowflake,
Thank you for your enquiry with regard to teeth whitening.
Full fee for teeth whitening is 850,000 won.
It entails two sessions of laser assisted office bleaching (normally takes about an hour of chair time)
and fabrication of home bleaching trays dispensed with two week supply of whitening gel.
There patients who are interested only in office bleaching session which cost 200,000 won per session.
If I can be of any help, please give us a call at 514-5575.
Cheers,
Wonhi Yoo |

Ok , my journey into metrosexuality is complete. I bought some from emart and want to use them. But I can't read korean/understand korean well enough to make out how long I've got to keep these "strips" in for. Any guesses ?
The costs you folks are suggesting for dental whitening seem madness. So I'll give this a try and try that as a last resort. |

The pricey procedure is laser whitening, and I hear it's not recommended because it can permanently sensitize your teeth to cold food. If your teeth are so yellow that traffic slows when you smile, perhaps you should get the longer but less risky treatment like I did. |

400k in 2001 translates to probably a lot more today. My teeth aren't that bad , I'm just going through a mid life crisis. Does our medical go towards paying the costs ? |
