First off, I am pretty well traveled and have been off to many of places alone. Thailand is a whole different sort of beast from what I've been reading and researching. I'm a dude, so let's get that out of the way.
Do you recommend traveling alone to Thailand? I'm not a moron when it comes to drinking and partying. I'm not looking for a drug fueled week either (unless I know what I'm getting into). I'm just looking for a good time and the chance to meet up with fellow travelers. Basically, what do you think? Have you ever done Thailand alone? Pros? Cons? What to look out for?
My travels will include Bangkok (two days), then Samui and one more (still deciding).

Anything that you let out of your hands (even for a second) has the ability to grow legs and walk off by itself. This can be especially true when you have new found friends around you. I read about the scams and stuff you can encounter before I went to Thailand and conducted a little testing on my own while I was there. My advice would be leave anything of value that you want to remain yours in your hotel's lock box. Most folks are honest (and very friendly), but in Thailand some of the folks survive off folks like you and I. Everybody needs to eat. |

It's true. Don't trust any foreigners there. Bunch of unwashed thieving twats they are. Don't trust bar girls, lad boys or the hotel safe.

I like how Join Me put it "Anything that you let out of your hands (even for a second) has the ability to grow legs and walk off by itself." I think that's very true. Just pay attention to my surroundings and "don't do anything stupid." That's what I figured and I appreciate the posts everyone. My confidence in this epic journey is rising. |

I would also advise you to make sure you control your surroundings. If it was my first time in Thailand, I wouldn't just wander off to any place (including bars where there aren't foreigners visible) at the suggestion of anyone you meet. You pick the destinations and less chance of running into any problems arising. |

Heh heh. I have found that women who travel alone are often a bit more conservative/protective of themselves. But that's very likely because like tends to hang out with like. |

I've been travelling to the Kingdom for over ten years never had a problem with the hotel safe.
If you don't trust the hotel safe. Then where do you put your passport,
Travellers checks, travellers checks, and other essentials while you plan
on swimming or snorkelling, or scuba diving? |

Swimming? Don't do it. Not safe, somebody might have peed in the pool.
Scuba diving - don't do it. Not safe. Somebody might have put helium in the tanks instead.
Snorkelling - don't do it. Somebody might not have cleaned their teeth since the last time the mouth piece was used. |
