Are there any Action movie stars under the age of 30 anymore? It seems there isn't anyone young to take the torch as the next great Action movie star. |

Are there any youngish action stars.......? Mark Wahlberg? Matt Damon does the Bourne thing.
Not really any in the Stallone/Arnie/Willis model.
Maybe that's why those old guys are still doing it?!! |

It's all about TV shows these days, not movies. |

Sly, Ahnold, and Bruce were well into their 30's when they played their most noteable action roles, and pretty much stuck with similar roles from the mid 80's to mid 90's.
Tom Cruise basically moved us through the mid 90's to present day.
Will Smith has also been a mainstay in action flicks over the past 10 years or so.
The rough and ready action stars have been replaced by dainty guys like Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings trilogy, Pirates trilogy, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven) and Keanu Reeves.
This Shai LePoofster that Spielberg has such a hard on for may have the chops. He's been a sidekick in the majority of his movies (Constantine, Indy 4, I, Robot, etc.) but I think he's being groomed for major upcoming roles. |

I think the era of 'action only' actors is over, and to a certain degree the genre of "Action" action movies has changed.
Sly, Dolph, Van Damme, Segall are all pretty much one note actors and were typecast as such. Even Arnie, when he got into comedy, only managed to make it work because it was funny mismatch to see a big lummox try and figure it out.
I've noticed a trend that has real actors in action roles -
Russel Crowe has a whole slew of them Gladiator, Proof of Life, Master and Commander, 3.10 to Yuma. Eric Bana's another Australian who's been slated as an action man with Troy, Munich, Hulk, Black Hawk Down.
Nicholas Cage is another example. All of these guys are very capable actors, who can comfortably work outside the action genre.
I saw Condemned on late night cable with wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin fighting it out with cons in a rip off of Battle Royale. While entertaining enough it really felt like a relic of a movie out of the early 80s. Action movies have evolved to accomodate a more sophisticated audience who want a compelling story, decent production values and good acting. |
