(yes, I know this is the wrong forum, but this one gets more traffic.)

I am off for the month of August. It came as a surprise, and thus I am left flat footed. For about a week I wanted to go to Sichuan to help with the rebuilding, but aftershocks have turned me off that idea. And China during the Olympics sounds like a bad idea.

So. Does anyone have any ideas on how to spend a month in an entertaining, enlightening, or enriching way?

I want out of the country because of the heat and humidity.

I don't want to spend too much money, as I haven't budgeted for this.

First hand experiences (i.e. something you've done) would be appreciated.

Most places in Asia will be more humid and hotter than Korea in the summer. Unless you go north, like Russia.

Russia actually only = 40% of Europe. The other 60% = Asia

You could do some camps. You say your budget isn't flush, so maybe by picking up a few million, your next vacation period can be anythign you want it to be. You could even look into doing camps in another country as long as they will get you there and provide a visa. That would be cool.

On the other hand, if you just want to kick back, I would say head down to Palawan, Davao, or Cebu in the Philippines.

That's an interesting idea.

Anyone know of any volunteer organizations in the Phillipines?

I'm looking at Beijing for the Olympics for PS summer vacation. I guess some people are adventurous enough to brave the crowds, potential pickpockets, and pollution.

You could volunteer via info on this page... or, if you wanna volunteer to work on my boat in Philippines,

I'm planning to go on a coastal safari after its fixed up and running. I think it needs a week or two of work.
