What movie sequels beat the original?
Empire Strikes Back, The Evil Dead Sequels, and The Godfather II are some ideas.
Any others? |

This might be a stretch but here goes, "Manhunter" was the original movie that came out in the 80's, then "Silence of the Lambs" was released. "Manhunter" was then remade into "Red Dragon" so by release date "Silence of the Lambs" is the next installment, which is a great movie.

"Back to the Future 2" another great sequel. |

Definitely agree with "Aliens"
I do not however agree with "Spiderman 2" I found the sequel to be just as bad at the original. |

I was going to say Aliens but it's already up.
Any number of Bond movies are better than the others - take your pick.
The latest batman is better than the original 4, but it probably doesn't count since it's a new series. |

But Star Wars and the superhero films were trilogies and series, and not sequels per se, no?
Jason Takes Manhattan. Now that was a sequel. |

Yeah I don't think trilogies count. As for sequels, I'll have to say that Spiderman 2 was better than the original. Aliens was better than the original. |

Why not? A trilogy is nothing more than an original movie with two sequels. A franchise such as The Lord of the Rings is not a trilogy, though, as it is nothing more than one continous story divided into three parts. |

Bourne and Mission Imposible.
I'd like to say Harold and Kumar but that's not really a sequel strictly speaking. |
